This is still my favorite bowl trip I've been on. Granted it was my first bowl game in person ever and I was still a student at the time but not only was the game exciting the 28 hour drive to AZ road trip with 6 other friends made some great stories we still talk about today. There was a bad winter storm that went through the OK panhandle that week so we took a route to avoid that by going to Colorado Springs then headed south through New Mexico where we still ran into some ice and white knuckle driving conditions. Then there was us using the outdoor hotel swimming pool when it was around 70 out and some local walked by in a winter coat and told us we were crazy it was too cold to swim which we said where we live it's 20 and snowing so this is like summer for us.

I had this EXACT experience as well, only in 2009.

Did you stop at a Pizza Hut on the drive down and eat some greasy pizza? A few hours later we were all gassing each other out in the cars and 1 of the guys had a fart so bad the next day during the game there were people at least 5 rows up from us asking who crapped their pants in our section. He was trying so hard not to laugh knowing they were all talking about what he had done.

Some of the funniest stories I have over the years come from ISU road trips. If you want some lifelong memories buy a cheap old RV with some buddies and take some road trips. I would say take it to ISU tailgates but you can't get grass lot passes for them anymore so you probably won't be able to afford a RV village pass to park it. Me and 3 buddies paid $500 each to buy an old RV and while it eventually wound up in a scrap yard about 10 years later it was a pain to keep running and maintained but we all got our money's worth of memories and stories from our time owning it and the tailgates and nights spent in it.

Ok well maybe not quite exactly, haha.

A few highlights from our trip:

1. Road trip in buddy's mom's van, driving through snowstorm in New Mexico mountains.
2. America's Best Value Inn pre-game day student parking lot party, next door bar, and pool.
3. Continuing the party at the tailgate the next day.
4. ISU 14 - Minn 13
5. Shuttling ~17 people back to ABVI hotel from the stadium in an F350 in one trip.
6. Searching Tempe gas stations and bars asking if we could have their bud light Insight.com Bowl game banners/posters. Some said yes. Others may have been "acquired" during late night covert missions and may be hanging in my garage right now.
7. New Years Eve Block Party in Tempe.
8. Grand Canyon visit on the way home.
9. Trying to stay awake and avoid hitting elk on Colorado mountain highways on the way back in the middle of the night while it was -10F outside.

I didn't realize you couldn't park small RVs in the grass lots anymore. That's dumb.

That was a great read. I just just love Pete Taylor's play calls in those videos. Man Oh Man, he was the best!
