Maybe you should wake up from the coma you have been in for years... Notre Dame making any kind of move would have a dramatic impact on conference realignment. Obviously it is a sensitive issue and he handled it perfectly. At this point in time... nobody can even say for sure that A&M will in fact go to the SEC opening up a spot in the Big XII so I doubt anyone at ND would say anything differently. For you to claim that there is no chance of a ND to the Big XII move being possible is very naive.

whatever you want to tell yourself, let me know when they join

Had he said everything except this:

"Our priority — and our clear priority — is maintaining our football independence and continuing to build our relationship with the Big East with our other sports."

I'd agree with you. Everything else is kinda non-committal, but that one's pretty clear to me.

At this point in time.... that is their clear priority. Now in 2 weeks, or 3 weeks, or a month when A&M could potentially make it official that they are leaving the Big XII for the SEC then ND's priorities could clearly change. They certainly can't comment at this time on something that hasn't happened yet and possibly may not happen at all. ND officials are not going to put themselves in a position to end up with egg on their face.

I'd agree with you. Everything else is kinda non-committal, but that one's pretty clear to me. However, I will say that 'pretty clear to me' really doesn't mean much. As has been said over and over, this is all speculation. We're all just picking our ponies.

So what you're saying is that ND is "firmly entrenched" in its football independence and wants to stay friendly with the Big East (so Pitt can join them in a new conference as well)?

I see where you are coming from in pulling out that quote (I read it too and thought that was probably as much of a no as anything else). I don't think ND is joining, but the information the ND AD provided wasn't much to go off of to really eliminate anything at this time. He had to say something, because sometimes a silent answer is worse.

But again, I am really concerned about our chances with BYU after those other reports of the "stipulations".

If they switch after that line, that's a 'firmly entrenched' moment, and I'd say they'd have more egg on their face than if they'd have left it at the other stuff.

The ONLY way ND EVER joins a conference is if independence no longer allows them a shot at the national championship.

That ONLY happens under the four super conference scenario, wherein I view it as almost a certainty that the Big Ten Champ will play the PAC 10 Champ in the Rose while the SEC Champ will play the "Last of the Four Superconferences" Conference in the Sugar. The winner of those two bowl games will square off for a national title.

In that scenario, ND is forced into a conference. Until that happens, ND remains independent. Period.

Haha, yep. They're independents though, which means they are not dependent on a conference or other teams...there is no one around to throw egg of their face and anything that hits them will be wiped off in a second. Media will be falling over themselves to capture every detail and the networks will be lining up to pay them money.

I was really doubting your point until you put those two extra periods at the end. How could I argue with a triple period?

my first time in this thread. Can someone please condense the first 4310 messages into a short explanation?

A&M likely joining the SEC this week. Big XII will likely keep between $10M & $20M of A&M's TV revenue. Big XII to go hard after ND, BYU & maybe Pitt as replacements. BYU is most likely candidate, although they said they are modeling their decision after what ND is doing. Mysterious plane left from Norman, OK airfield last night & visited College Station, TX & Columbia, MO.

Yes. We all know what is going to happen. aTm is leaving. BYU may join. ND may join but probably not unless they do. Houston could be a possibility . SMU is a possibility. Arkansas could come here unless they decide that they want to be in the SEC in which case they won't be in the Big 12. A lot of people have inside information that is saying the Big 12 will add another team or maybe 3, unless they add just one but if they add just one they will certainly not add three. Two additional teams is out of the question. Texas is evil and aTm is not a big baby. Texas is just doing what aTm and Nebraska allowed them to do. That pretty much covers it.

I don't think it's funny to make fun of anyone's menstrual cycle - even if it is a hawk fan. Granted, they go PMS - BAT - **** - CRAZY most of the time, but is that really their fault?

Almost 4,300 posts in this thread and this one by CtownCyclone stands out to me as the best. You should get some kind of award (Best Post in the Soon to be Longest Thread in Cyclonefanatic History - BPSLTCH) and maybe even a cookie! hahah

Thank you, thank you...I accept rep, credits, and coupons. If you happen to have a rich Nigerian uncle who needs me to hold some money for him, that works as well.

99% certainty that A&M is going to the SEC. 99% of Nebraska fans, A&M fans, and Iowa fans, as well as 99% of the national media, think this spells the end of the Big 12 Conference and are already preparing the celebrations, despite reports that the 9 remaining members are committed to making the conference work.

Lots of poo being flung at walls by the media to see what does and doesn't stick in attempt to accelerate their perceived demise.

In the meantime (and being scoffed at by those that are pining to see such demise), rumors exist that BYU is interested in joining the Big 12, as well as rumored disciussions with ND, Pitt and Arkansas. Louisville and Air Force are maintaining "don't rock the boat" deniability, but their names keep getting mentioned as well.

I think, in essence, a lot of people like to pretend that they're in the know, but in reality virtually nobody outside of the Big 12, SEC, BYU, ND, Pitt, and a handful of other schools have Ny clue of what's truly going on.

If you take a double period and stand it upright, you get a colon. HUZAAAHHH, watch the magic. A triple period is called a mormon's worst nightmare

Pitt doesn't make much geographical sense. I just don't see the fit there. ND doesn't make a ton of geographical sense either, but at least they are a national program with a national recruiting base so the negative effects of playing so many games outside the region would be minimized.

I agree about Pitt...but if geographical sense had any bearing, A&M wouldn't be leaving the Big 12, and TCU and UCF wouldn't be in the Big East. Yet this is where we are...
