TAKE TWO: Where’s the leadership in college athletics? - Sports | The Columbia Daily Tribune - Columbia, Missouri

The prevailing opinion among the kingpin commissioners is that they are perfectly happy with the status quo, but they don’t want to be left behind if the other two expand. How to move their fingers from the trigger? Well, there is a guy allegedly in charge of college athletics, NCAA President Mark Emmert, and he’s done precisely nothing to stop realignment. He should propose legislation that any school that leaves a conference has to compete for two years as an independent before it can enter its new league. If a player who transfers has to sit out a year, why not apply the same principle to schools?

The future of his organization could be at stake. One of the popular theories about the realignment endgame is that four 16-team superconferences will secede from the NCAA so they don’t have to share their profits with the peasants. If Emmert were to let that happen on his watch without lifting a finger, he would make Dan Beebe look like Julius Ceasar.

THis was posted on texags, not that it is even to be remotely considered a trustworthy location, but confirms some other stuff I've been hearing:

My roommates's dad is on our BOR. He says the Big 12 will last at least 5 more years due to a new/modified TV equal revenue agreement. OU will announce they're staying. BYU is joining early next week...maybe Pitt and Louisville too.

We will be free to go to SEC in 2012, but it's going to be significantly more expensive than originally thought (thanks Baylor). However, with the increase in exit fee, Baylor and the other crap schools will not pursue litigation.

Pac 12 dreams ended at Teck and Stoolwater.
'

Not to mention some rumblings about Gov. Goodhair throwing Loftin under the bus, and making aggy crawl desperately back to the Big XI

Probably no more real than everything else, but that would be a great outcome.

If the NCAA did this, conferences would just make them de facto members by scheduling as many games as possible with them and just not counting them towards conference rankings for a year or two. Might even give more flexibility as far as getting out of existing noncon contracts and such.

The NCAA would put more teeth into the rule if a win against the moving team did not count for bowl eligibility for two years.

fortunately for us in this situation is Chip Brown is on the outside looking in this time. Last time he was the mouth of Texas being fed by Dodds, this time, he is just another reporter with no real inside connections at OU or A&M.

I continue to think this media hype right now by OU is positioning to strengthen the Big 12, why would an OU insider be talking to the main Texas mouthpiece - they want their message heard in Austin.

I just don't get it. With Texas looking like they may be down for awhile, it seems like OU couldn't have an easier path to the NC every year if they stayed in the Big XII. In the Pac 12, they'd have to compete with USC, Oregon, and Stanford.

This could set up nicely for a Big 12/Big East merger...the 7 remaining Big 12 schools plus the 8 Big East FB schools, with one spot left for ND. Huge geographic footprint...
