I wish I had your confidence in the idea that Iowa would have our backs. I'm afraid that Iowa State is an island. The institutions and people that should be with us, do not seem to be there. At the top of that list last summer -- U of I.

It should be a fairly easy concept for all Iowans to understand, and especially Iowa fans, that Iowa State's well-being is important to us all. Having two major universities in top-level conferences is important in multiple ways for our economic and social vitality. This has been explained many times. But, simply for Iowa fans, they should realize that Iowa State helps make their program better. For example, in the 60s and 70s, Iowa football was horrible. It wasn't until they were forced to play Iowa State annually that they began to upgrade their team. I have to believe that there was some additional pressure and interest brought to bear because Iowa State had success in those early years of the rivalry.

Instead of taking the time to understand how Iowa State is a benefit to us all, the media and others seem very quick to make excuses. I've heard too many times that Iowa as no clout in the Big 10 and couldn't help even if they wished. That's a cop out. I've heard others claim that it isn't their job in the media to "promote" Iowa State. Another cop out.

Ask yourself one question. If the situation were reversed, if the Big 10 were dissolving, would the feeling in the state be the same? My guess is that we would be hearing multiple calls for those in authority to do whatever it takes to save Iowa. We'd probably be hearing from all sectors of the media.

We're not hearing much of anything other than on sports radio and message boards. Even there, nobody is really promoting Iowa State. It's been, for the most part, simply reporting on events. In some cases, I've even heard the talk show hosts seeming to take joy in the event.

I hope I'm wrong about U of I. I know if it were the other way around I would want Iowa State to stand by it's in-state rival and fellow regent institution.

Could somebody just give me a summary of where the Big12 and ISU stand right now? Whats the next step?

Oklahoma thinks it has put texas back into its cage.

Texas doesn't think so.

A&M is gone with their mason jars.

Mizzou is still here until they aren't.

OU has "decided" to decline a Pac-x invite thus making the decision for TTU and OSU

ISU is busy trying to look agreeable with whatever is going on and waiting for the other show to drop while looking for the "least worst" outcome

A&M gone. 9 schools are solids and are agreeing to sign over media right for 6 years until 1st tier rights in 2016, which locks schools together. Looking to get back to 10 immediately. Not adding Texas schools. Geography is key. Trust must be built and restored.

OU decided, or CU's president ROFL'd and said "hells no" when the issue was brought up at the PAC meeting?

I don't understand why Missouri is being difficult. They sat quiet the whole time the OU, Tu, TT and OSU to the Pac was happening... now that those schools are back they wanna bring **** up? Why would they want to leave if we are going to add another school or 3? They have a much better shot of winning in the Big12. They will get slaughtered in the SEC.

Just because they were quiet doesnt mean they were sitting idle.

I'm sure the SEC was far from a sure thing at that point. They needed to save the Big 12 to ensure their own safety. But now that it seems the SEC is rolling along, they need to do what is in their best interests (in their eyes).

You're confusing Mizzou being difficult with the media (particularly ESPN) flinging poo against the wall to see what will stick.

Unlike last year, Mizzou has said they are in favor of the Big 12 sticking together, and that was good enough for everyone until some random report out of Birmingham, AL said Mizzou had accepted an invite to join the SEC. The only network I saw to post this? ESPN. They are the ones driving this and making it look like schools are being difficult. Keep in mind it's ISU that ESPN is blaming for A$M taking more than a month to join the SEC because we decided to sue them when:

1. ISU never said they were suing A$M, but we weren't giving up our rights to sue, and
2. We were hardly the only school to hold onto our right to sue, but ISU shouldered far more than its blame for that and ESPN publicly ostricized ISU for that.

Basically, I no longer trust ESPN when it breaks news - I need to see two or three other competing websites reporting a similar story before I believe, because I no longer believe that ESPN is an objective source of information, especially when I am more convinced thsn ever that they are actually driving this train.

I wonder if they at least listened to Nienas' and the Big 12's last plea, or if they just gave the rest of the B12 the finger and didn't even listen.

If its now official, it's a month and a half and 14,700 posts later. Wonder if A&M will look back 10 years from now and feel like they have made the right move.
Heard they gave the finger to Neinas - someone is getting paid off to make the move. Now they hoped to not pay an exit fee. I say stick it to them.

Simple. They wanyted the league to dissolve with no exit fees. Now they are looking at big Baylor bucks or $25M or so to exit. The grass is always greener on the other side. I think we need 12 teams in the worse way and a conference game to get back our mojo. And we need to collect all the mason jars and ship them to College Station because they are in short supply.

Our biggest problem is SEC needs a 14th team bad and they want to be poirates. Slive is working it.

Not exactly sure.
A question that I didn't think of until now. How much money would we receive for a champ game? I was in favor of adding one team now (BYU IMO) and then picking up 2 from BE (Louis and another) after their 2 or so year before they can leave. I figured this would line up with our tier one very well and keep from destroying the BE.

If we can get enough for a champ game though, maybe we can use that and Tammy exit fees to bump to 12 right away. I would just as soon not be the one who gives the final death blow to a conference with what we just went through. Plus, if they can stay together and add teams, it comes like a starter conference to develop teams that aren't quite there to being acceptable schools. It also adds a little more of a buffer to keep the big 12 together.

The conference we will always have to watch is the PAC. They are landlocked and we are the only big conference next to them.

Chip Brown reporting this morning that MU/SEC talks still ongoing...

Per Twitter: Sources tell Orangebloods.com the #SEC and Missouri are still in contact. B12 won't stabilize until Mizzou states its future plans.

We don't need Mizzou. All we need is OU and Texas to be happy.

Putting on my tinfoil hat.

Does look like espn is driving this train to kill the big 12. I think they learned a long time ago there was major money to be major in collegiate athletics and it became about that and not sports reporting.
