SIAP, here's MHver3's post today on the WVU board:

Assuming MHver3's info is correct, there is one thing that is glaring: If ND joins as 13 the 14th invite will NOT be Louisville as ND will want one of their natural rivals like GT or Pitt. If true, I'm kinda disappointed cause was looking forward to Louisville for their basketball. Maybe that will happen if expansion goes all the way to 16.

"VT's future is going to be decided by CBS-this I am told is a FACT" CBS?? Anybody know what this means? Is VT in some weird contract w/ CBS?

This is getting good. The ACC members have to be getting worried. What a difference a summer makes. Its much better being on this side.

Which ACC schools are sitting there worrying about being left out like we were last year? Which ACC schools are in jeopardy of being forgotten in this process?

I'd assume it would have to do with SEC's deal with CBS.

Yep, CBS is already reportedly balking at the SEC's request to renegotiate their deal due to the additions of TAMU and Mizzou. No way the add another team unless they have it in writing that they are getting a re-negotiated TV contract.

Not neccesarily being left out, but more of the conference taking a big hit. Replacing Clemson and FSU, would be pretty dang tough.

So, Big 12 looks to be moving to 14. SEC is at 14. Who does the B1G and PAC 12 take to move to 14 (or even 16)? The landscape will shift quickly.

Am I wrong in thinking that the Clemson and FSU deals are at this point basically done in principle? After Missouri showed everybody how NOT to go about leaving a conference, or at least that you should not assume a certain conference actually wants you, I wouldn't think Clemson and FSU would be letting this much info out without already knowing their landing spots.

Georgia Tech is just not appealing to me at all.

Clemson is a great school and is supported by great people. They do not raise their noses at people ala G Tech.

Still hankering for Louisville are you?

I keed, I keed. I would be all for Louisville in the 15 or 16 spot, for the simple fact that they really want to be in the Big 12, where some of these school view the Big 12 as the lesser of two evils.

I would love to have Virginia Tech...start a Virginia Territory rivalry. I don't understand why they are all but locked to the SEC. I would love to get back at Slive, but I suppose we are partners now so we have to play nice?

I am happy to be safe in this round of realignment, but I wouldn't say I am happy about it happening. I remember how it felt thinking that there was a chance ISU wouldn't be playing BCS football anymore, and quite frankly getting very emotional about it. I imagine fans of some schools in the ACC are feeling the same way right now.

I find all of this fascinating, but, if I had my way, I'd return everything to the way it was before Nebby and Colorado left the Big 12. Let ND join the Big 10 and be done with it.

Correct, CBS is balking at the Tier 1 level and who can blame them? Their inventory number is staying the same and how often will Aggy, Mizzou and VTech appear on the SEC Game of the Week on CBS? Not that often although the SEC can argue they will gain more CBS viewers in TX, MO and VA.

The SEC does have leverage with ESPN for Tier 2 re-negotiations and with possibly 16 teams and a boatload of new FB inventory to flow to Tier 3, an SEC Network can then possibly be financially viable.

I think the only reason Louisville is still being considered (even slightly) is that they are willing to wait until ND comes in as a full member. That makes scheduling much easier. If we raid the ACC for 3 teams, all 3 will want to come at once. That would give us 13 teams for a couple years until ND is a full member.

//All assumptions that ND will join.//

Doyel is correct that FSU's slide during Bowden's last years didn't help the ACC but it's definitely not the main reason for what may kill the ACC.

What's killing the ACC is their TV deal and being all in with ESPN. Swofford didn't open up the Tier 2 portion of the ACC to the open market (Fox, NBC) and instead engaged ESPN and small-pocketed regional player Raycom instead in a syndication deal for Tier 2. It resulted in a reduced deal that quickly become well below-market once the P12 and SEC reached their new deals. Adding Pitt and Syracuse did not provide the ACC nearly enough leverage in their recent renegotiations. The ACC below market deal is why FSU and Clemson will likely leave and that was the result of a major screw-up by Swofford, not the decline of FSU football.
So you are saying they had their own Beebe calling the shots?

I agree with you except the pain of realignment has brought the remaining members together to finally push change through (revenue sharing, etc.)

Agree 100%. Somebody posted somewhere on a message board they were a bunch of ****oles, but they were our ****oles. Helped in location and they were AAU also, in my way of thinking.

In fairness to Beebe, he didn't negotiate the current Tier 1 deal, Kevin Weiberg did. He did negotiate the new favorable Tier 2 deal with Fox and had a hand in keeping the current Tier 1 deal as-is when NU and CU bolted.

Exactly. I'd love this as well. You'd think there'd be some interest in restoring the battle for the Black Diamond Trophy. I see no reason to play nice- bowl game be damned.
