Looking to plan a trip to Kentucky in July. Just wondering if anyone has gone there or lived there that can give me some ideas. The only thing for now that is a must is visiting Woodford Reserve.

Cumberland Falls in the Daniel Boone National Forest is very nice. There's a few hiking trails that take you back to at least one smaller falls also.

Cumberland Falls is also one of only two places in the world to see a moonbow if you're there around a full moon.

Mammoth Cave area is pretty cool. Probably good to research and book tours beforehand, especially going during peak tourism season.

I'd rate the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green an emphatic "OK". Not amazing, but I'm not real into Corvettes. As of a few weeks ago they had the mangled cars they pulled out of the sinkhole on display, so that was cool. There is a separate factory tour you can get on through GM that sounded interesting, but have to book at least a week in advance IIRC.

Louisville Slugger museum & factory in Louisville is worth spending an hour or two if you're in town. Not a real big place, but you see the process pretty close-up on the tour and they have a lot of significant memorabilia. There's a spot you can pose and take pictures with game-used bats from Mickey Mantle, Cal Ripken, etc and batting cages that you can take BP using exact model bats of several MLB stars past and present.

Marry your own cousin.

Seriously though, the Newport Aquarium is pretty cool. Just across the river from Cincinatti too, so you could take a trip there and spend some hours.

Seriously again, though, you could also marry your cousin.

Build a log cabin.
Fish out the back window.
Paint the outhouse.
Eat possum for breakfast.
Meet Unibrow over moonshine.

It's been 25 years, but I remember Mammoth Cave being pretty cool.

We also went off the beaten path a bit and drove by some of the really large horse racing breeders' estates. I still remember the miles and miles of pristine fences and lawns, private racing training tracks, and with gigantic horse barns with stained glass windows.

Even as a kid, I remember that being my first real encounter with "people that have a ****-load of money"

Distilleries. Do the Bourbon Trail. The drives between them all are pretty nice, lots of good scenery. Woodford Reserve was my favorite, but they're all pretty cool in their own way. Maker's Mark would be a pretty close second. I'd go to Maker's just to do dip your own bottle in the wax - and it's definitely the most popular on the trail.

Louisville has pretty solid night live on 4th Street.

Went to Lexington once but I'm a college student so that may have been a different experience for me, haha

I worked with a guy many years ago who grew up in Hazzard County Kentucky.

I asked him once how he ended up in Davenport, Iowa and he said there were only 3 things to do in Hazzard county. Work the coal mine, sell moonshine or move it on down the line.

What part of Kentucky are you going to be in? That affects recommendations greatly. I used to live there, so PM me with any specific questions.
