The brown in the summer takes some getting used to, but Idaho has a lot of off road trail opportunities as far as land use goes, if you're into that.

I was in Boise 3ish times for work trips (had a client at BSU) and enjoyed my time there. I thought as a whole it felt very midwestern, though at this point I can't remember any specific examples as to why.

One thing I remember some of the students telling me about was "inversion"--something along the lines of different temperature layers in the atmosphere trapping smog in the valley. I was never out there when it was happening, but it sounded totally weird.

Spent 6 months in Idaho Falls back in the late 80's. Things I remember about the place.

Lot of outdoor things to do. We spent a lot of time 4x4ing out in the desert and mountains. The Snake river ran through the city so it was always easy to find a great fishing spot. Was out there during the summer, but it looked like there were a lot of great skiing options. They love their dams up there so there are a lot of reservoirs to go boating and fishing on.

Culturally, the two biggest things I had to adjust too were: The Mormons have a lot of influence in the state. You will run into a lot of strange laws but they usually have a loophole you can use to work around them. Guns are considered a proper fashion accessory. It is an open carry state. Was not uncommon to see people wearing a revolver hanging from their hip as they went about their everyday life, such as shopping, going to church, and going to the the circle k outside of town to buy their beer.

The weather: Summers are dry. People there talk about the forest fires like people here talk about the crops. We got a foot of snow on Thanksgiving day and none of the locals seemed surprised.

That was back in the late 80's. Heard a lot of people from the coast moved there during the housing boom in the 90's, so do not know how that changed things.

I would move back there if work gave me the chance.

A lot of good help here. I really appreciate the input. We probably will drive our motorhome out there and find a good campground to start with.

The biggest problem will be giving up our season tickets. After last season, we are expecting a good year. It will be hard to beat those wins last year though.

Thanks!
