Here is Chad calling it Carver Magic. Which might be the funniest crap ever. Call us little brother and then try and take our buildings nickname

What were these two days? They are billing it as some historic thing.

Some of my favorite memories of those days were listening to Pete on the radio, since not every game was on TV. That is a new concept for my younger nephews and nieces, who can't imagine listening to a game on the radio.

(grew up listening to Jack Buck and the Cardinals, sometimes sitting in my car in the driveway)
"You've got to be kidding me!"

I've always had a really hard time remembering specific games and dates, etc but I remember this very clearly. He made it look so easy that day, and I remember being pissed we didn't get him to 50 as much as I was excited he got to 48, lol.

Was a fun game. We ate Trent Johnson alive with lobs over that zone.

TCU was AWFUL back then. Way worse than what Oklahoma State is this year. I sort of miss having one of those teams around.

LOL That'll end either this yr or next whenever CC leaves.
I'm sorry, but was Carver magic ever a thing? Wishful thinking by the little brother out east.

By the looks of the crowd's attire at that point we had not yet declared Cardinal and Gold as our school colors.

The Cyclones started off hot in Johnny Orr’s third season at the helm with five straight wins. The season, however, ultimately proved an up-and-down endeavor. Sitting at 10-9 as the 18-3 Tigers crossed the border to arrive in Ames, the young Cyclones squad relied heavily on sophomore Barry Stevens and freshman Jeff Hornacek.

Read more about this historical moment here:

The insertion of the walkon Hornacek into the starting lineup prior to that Mizzou game changed the trajectory of the program and the result of the Mizzou game was the initial big time evidence of that drastic shift upward.

Missouri had Derrick Chievous who was an amazing basketball player. There were some really good players back in those days. MIssouri had Chievous, OU had Mookie Blalock, Stacy King, Wayman Tisdale, KU with Manning, We had Barry, Grayer, Horny, Kansas State had Brad Underwood, Just kidding about Underwood he sucked. OSU had Terry Faggins. The coaches were all crazy personality type dudes.

Yeah, I have an old pic of Carver Magic at it's height. It was incredibly memorable.

I remember watching it on ESPN. Back then ESPN was a bit more fledgling and mostly did Big East and the occasional ACC or Big 10 basketball games. The fact that they came to Ames was basically because MU was highly ranked.

After the game I tried to catch the local (QC) news coverage. Then went back to ESPN for their nightly sports wrap-up where they promoted the replay of the game with something like, "This one turns out much different than people might expect." or something similar.

Of course I stayed up to watch the replay. I was a wreck at work the next day but there was no way I was going to miss enjoying the discussions the next day!

It was also in the era when ESPN wasn't necessarily producing the games.

MetroSports out of Kansas City was the originator of that game (aired on KSHB), and ESPN picked up their feed.

I remember watching it on ESPN.

Not sure what year, probably later 80's but here in the sticks, we had one of those behemoth antennas and got WOI Channel 5 which ran some of the home games. Otherwise, we waited for the news by pony express or the Register, which actually had a sports section (The Big Peach on Sundays) and other real news.
