Alright I'm not going to chime in on the picture or the outrage to it... but the fact that you have "NEVER been offended by anything to do with [your] race, ethnicity, religion, gender" is kind of an informative statement when it comes from what I assume is a white Christian male. If I am wrong feel free to correct me. But saying "I've never been offended" when you are a white Christian man in America is pretty ignorant of what other people go through sometimes. And this post is coming from a white Christian man by the way

With that said there are real issues out there other than a Three Amigos photoshop that would be a better use of everyone's mental energy so maybe the people who are offended by the photo should re-prioritize

So...you're offended that he's not offended?

I don't know what's worse, the fact that people are offended by this, or that as soon as I saw the picture I knew people were going to get offended by it.

If you ever want to win an argument, refer to your emotions. Simply say, "that offends me." And you'll win! Any person who does not sympathize with your feelings is a bigot and an *******. Our society has placed higher value on feelings than facts.

There was absolutely no attempt here to insult a culture or its people.

By all means, if you or your culture is personally victimized, you have every right to be offended and seek justice how you see fit. Until then, no apologies are necessary. Matt Campbell was not racist or intolerant by posting this, yet many would have you believe that it the case.

Not in the real world.

Imagine a college student's reaction to Blazing Saddles if they have never heard of or seen the movie, they would probably require life long counseling from within their safe space after learning about the movie.

Being offended is the fad of society. You ain't cool unless ancestors years ago had horrible hardships thus giving you street cred for being disrespected even though your life is better now than those ancestors who endured real hardships.

Makes me wish for the fad of my day to come back like acid wash jeans and LA gear shoes.

Well I know that I am incredibly offended by Notre Dame's mascot. Just because my great-grandfather was a bare knuckle boxing champion, and we have alcoholism in our family doesn't mean you can completely ignore me complaining about you not noticing that I'm offended.

I'm honestly disappointed in Iowa State for not standing up to these idiots. There was zero reason to take the post down but to apologize is weak.
Meh, pick your battles. They are better off battling on the recruiting trail. Yes it is dumb but sometimes the best thing you can do is not engage.

while i don't agree with the apologies.....

if a member of your athletic dept is having a very public race based discrimination lawsuit.

prob should just stay away from anything that can be misconstrued as race related.
Good point and its the school getting sued.

I'm half Hispanic and grew up in Latin America (not Mexico, though) and I don't find that offensive in the least.

Have you guys thought that perhaps this is somewhat of a misunderstanding due to the generational gap? I know the movie The Three Amigos (loved it), but the average college student is probably too young to have seen the movie. To them this is just three non-Mexican people in mariachi outfits. Still not offensive to me even in that context, but I just wanted to point out that the offended students probably don't even know the movie.

As for the usual stupid college groups that get offended at every ******* thing, glad to see those idiots are still around. We had a few while I was in school as well. I always wonder where these people ultimately end up. I never seem to encounter their type at work, so I just assume they end up working at non-profits and organizing protests/marches/rallies.

They become journalism proffessors at ISU.
