This is the best our overall basketball program has ever been!

I'm just curious why OP feels he has to act like an asshat to make his point. Can anyone explain that to me?

Because our media and forum posters are way bigger ***-hats when they go off the rails with negativity and short term perspectives. I think I am allowed to be a bit snarky when so many toss ridiculous criticisms regularly. And I don't understand why the arc of our program story got submerged under all the whiny. Also, I like a spirited Cyclone discussion and I live far from Iowa. So... isn't this the place for this? It's a public forum right? Not a country club or a high school clique? For the last time I'm not MT or Cornell Mann or some poster some people didn't like... I'm a guy that wants to talk hoops and gets frustrated when the debate goes too far into media hype fantasy or short sighted noob trolling.

No. The bottom line is that this is so obvious a thread isn't even necessary. Everyone knows ISU basketball as a program is at an all time high and still trending up. The idea that someone needs to start an angry thread about it, makes no sense

So you are saying that I can't sit with the cool kids at lunch? Or what? You are going to beat me up after school?

Sounds like a bunch of pointless ******** in this thread. Looks like 3ballsdeep got what he/she wanted out of this thread.

The ****** OP didn't say this is the best the program has been and stop. It was the ****** that brought up old news. NOBODY on this board (there CAN'T be a single one) would claim any other program in our history comes close to this. I think we can debate best TEAMS (the Fizer team was balls deep in toughness), but even a mouth-breathing idiot would agree we have the best program in our history.

So if you're trying to read between the lines, the OP is a ******. Balls-deep in douchedom. And he wears an a@@ for a hat and it suits him.

Oh now that was adorable. Guessing it's pretty rainy out there in Spokane today. Funny thing is if we met in a bar watching the Clones we would immediately be friends. Cheers brother.

You have three balls?!
I don't want to even know what "deep" means in your world.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this team has just been in cruise control the whole year and come tourney time they will step it up a notch intensity wise? Today was the first game this year where I've seen this team just play hard on defense most of the game. I have this feeling that if this team gets past the first round in the ncaa that they will get to the FF.

Cant we all just be happy? Remember how bad we were with McDermott? Just enjoy this. Making the tourney was a surprise 4 years ago. Now we're a lock and everyone is looking for something to criticize. Those who complain about us being 17-5 (7-3) can do your thing but I'm going to enjoy the ride.

Lots of truth in this statement. We've been inside top 20 almost all year, most of that is inside top 15. This has been fun!!!! But it can be irritating to see how close the team can be to a legit top 10 or 5.

Here here.

And, for the record, I think last year's team (and this year's team if it were running on cylinders) would give the Fizer/Tinsley team a run for its money. Fred would have the best of game plan. Kane v. Tinsley for alpha male in the backcourt and Ejim v. Fizer for the same in the frontcourt would be some epic matchups. And there's always Naz, lurking in that corner, ready for the dagger three...

Wrong. Just wrong.

And I also disagree with the notion that "this is the best that it will ever be at ISU". We have ONE Sweet 16 over this stretch. And would anyone be surprised if this year's team flamed out in the early rounds? I wouldn't. They've shown that they can start multiple games just coasting and not being dialed in. As good as this year's team is, they do NOT have the mental toughness of last year's team or 2000's. That said, to say that 4 tourneys in 4 years and 1-2 Sweet 16s (this team is not getting to the Elite 8 IMO) is as good as it gets at ISU? Sorry, there's a clear step up from there and that includes actually competing for conference championships, being a perennial Sweet 16 team and making a run at a Final Four. There's no reason that ISU cannot do that.

Not one person has said this is as good as it gets or this is the best we will ever be. But this is the best shape our program has ever been in. What that means is our teams are getting better. I understand though that lobbing random criticisms and venting your fears of an early loss are how you show love for your team. I have family members that are the same way. One of them used to criticism Ejim's effort all the time and now if I bring it up he gives me a confused doggy look. "I have a lot of panicky reactionary fear and anger that I don't know how to deal with because I love Iowa State so much and it hurts so bad when they lose" is the subtext of many forum posts.
