This is what happens when you strive for mediocracy

At an Engineering school, one should realize that stasis is not consistent, but rather is consistently fluctuating. Therefore, a program or substance is always in flux either up or down.

In nature, few things go in straight lines. A little up, a little down. Are things trending up or down over time?

Well... things were certainly pretty fluxed up at that game on Saturday, that's for sure.

Rhoads in and of himself is not the issue. His job is not, nor should it be in danger. HOWEVER... his refusal to replace Mess at the OC position is what could be his death knell. Questions need to be asked such as "How is Rhoads OK with the offense making 0 strides in his tenure at ISU so far?" "How is Rhoads so passive about having THE WORST offense on a CONSISTENT basis in the Big 12?" "What is it going to take for the light bulb to go on in Rhoads' head, that he WILL NOT win with Mess calling the plays?"

Rhoads has beaten giants, he has had a fantastic PR campaign in his 4-5 years here, he has been to 3 bowls in 4 seasons....but this program is not making strides in the literal sense. It starts on the offensive side of the ball. Sure, David Johnson rushed for 200 yards against us, and that does hurt. Even still, I have more faith that the defense figures things out before the offense does this season. We, as fans, have been tortured to watch a floundering offense these past 4 years (it does go back further than that). What is it going to take, CPR? When will he realize an urgency for change?

Just to add on to what I said above, he WILL NOT win in the Big 12 with the offense that is currently being flung out there week by week. This conference is all about offense, and though the offense is "offensive", it is not Big 12 worthy.

I'm willing to let a lot of that pass because he's building a program at a place that simply isn't an easy place to win. I know I'm sounding like an apologist - just let me finish.

My biggest cause for concern is Rhoads' refusal to replace Messingham at OC. Several years in now it's clear he cannot run an offense. .

"Several years in"? One game into his second season as coordinator???

Seriously. Back to the OP. I had to look up what a "mediocracy" is...
