The MC offensive plan requires a good OL and no mistakes at all. Short plays in succession will get first downs, unless you have penalties, dropped passes, missed blocks, bad passes, sacks or turnovers. Any of these, and the drive is over. The remedy is to expand the offensive scope by formations, motion, cadence, personnel, and by using an offensive playbook larger than 5 plays. Manning is either too stupid or too lazy to expand the scope of our offense, and we will always have mistakes due to poor training. There is no solution with Manning in charge. You are not going to execute 12 plays in a row without a mistake. Assume 90% success probability each play, that gives a 28% chance of a TD on a 12 play drive. If you shorten the field with ST or defensive take aways, you reduce the number of consecutive good plays needed -that is how Iowa has managed to get by most years.
