No, he doesn't play the nickelback position. He'll play a lot of snaps spelling both safety spots.
I couldn't agree more. Hopefully one of the punters can step it up this week to take the spot. 18 yard punts are going to spell trouble all year long.
Everybody is so concerned about the punting. A sample size of 1 doesn't show much. Now if he averaged 4 for 18 yards i would be more concerned. But one could be a nervous shank.
Well Iowa blocked a punt and took it back for a touchdown that could have something to do with it.
EIU's put formation was more spread out than what we run, and they have a rugby style kicker which takes longer.
I know we had five somewhat experienced receivers returning but is anyone else a little disappointed that none of the newcomer or redshirt freshman receivers did not see a snap last Thursday. I see a couple on the depth chart, but I thought one of Gary, Young, West, Blanton, and Jennert would be ready and talented enough to push some of the older guys for PT? Do you think it's just a matter of a couple of the positions being fairly hard to learn? I'm also wondering is Shontrelle Johnson may see a lot of the screen type plays from the slot position which may keep Gary, Blanton, or West from needing to contribute right now.
He covered awesome. Tackling... not so much (that goes for O'Connel as well). Sims is a much surer tackler than the other safeties.
I'm also concerned about the wide receiver position. We have about two dozen of them on the roster but the one who struggled the most last year is still our # 1 option? I thought the NIU game would be a good one to give someone else a look.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he did last year against Colorado and it went about 20 yards off the side of his foot.
As for the depth chart, we have so many returning receivers, it's going to be hard for some of the younger guys to get snaps. I think we'll see some of these guys throughout the year, but not too often.
As for defense, I don't really care who's playing or what the formation is as long as the tackling is good. Spann was a good back, but our tackling needs to improve if we're going to keep Robinson/Hampton in check.

I'd say if money plays like he did Thursday there may be some snaps available in the near future.
