How is it impossible to attend this Thursday night game? It's not like it hides behind a tree and then jumps out and yells "boo!" the day before. It's known well in advance the game will be Thursday night and it's pretty much a given it will be like that in 2010 based on the past few years.

If it's so important, plan around it and use vacation. Great excuse for a 5 day weekend.

Bingo! I have been planning this weekend since last year about this same time... I'm pumped... Work a half day Thursday, in Ames by noon... tailgate all day and go to the game... Gold in Des moines area Friday morning, at riverside friday afternoon, tailgate and go to the Iowa v. UNI game, then golf Sunday at Amana... Could it get any better?

FYI -- Thursday night games may be coming to an end after next season. In 2011, our first game is on the road at Utah so there won't be a chance for the typical Thursday night opening game.

Unless of course we become big enough to get on ESPN for a Thursday night in the middle of the season...

Just so you know we are 4-0 vs Utah.

I am not really in favor of the Thursday night games. I prefer Saturdays. I think the "students go home" argument is a lame one. The students who are true fans will stay in Ames and go to the game. The students who go home are not going to go to the games anyway and will not have season tickets as they go home every weekend anyway.

JP must have Labor Day weekend plans for the family. There is NO reason to have the Thursday night game, other than TV.

As far as 11:00 am games. I hate them. We need to leave by 6 am or sooner in order to get there and that only allows a couple hours of tailgating. I prefer the 1 pm kickoff. I can understand the need to be on TV though.

And the worst thing of all. Night games in November. That is the most idiotic thing of all. You can expect temperatures to drop at least 20 degrees or more at night. The Missouri game last year was pure MISERY. A sparse crowd. Terribly cold. I don't really think it does us a lot of good to show a half empty stadium on a freezing November night.

As a student I loved it. Now I'm more indifferent working M-F. This year I have to miss most of the tailgating which is a little depressing.

Overall I am in favor because I remember how great these were in college.

I think people complain a lot. It seems that if some of you believe that if things aren't done your way they are necessariliy done wrong.

Maybe other fan bases complain as much about inconsequential crap like this but I doubt it.

I love it. I plan to use 1.5 days of vacation in advance each year and it makes a great long weekend. I love the Saturday games but one Thursday a year doesn't bother me at all. There is nothing like tailgating and drinking beer when you should be at work.

+1

Another example would be the threads about radio personalities. Have yet to see it "discussed" even remotely as much as it's done here.

This is not a case of complaining nor doing wrong, in my opinion.
Looking through the thread posts I see reasoned points both pro and con.
I see concerns and discussion points being expressed, not someone complaining or whining.

Bottom line, there are some that are fine with it being on Thursday, there is a significant percentage of those that are regular attendees (I do not know the exact percentage, so maybe guess 25-35%) that have a real challenge when it is moved to Thursdays.

Many see it different as between moving a time on a Saturday because we are doing it on a work day and week night. For those that can take off the next day, or early to get there, great, but recognize there are many who want to but just cannot. They are caught at work, have kids activities after school (often time mandatory, especially at this time of year), or just have a challenge getting them even out early, to the game and back.

So, lets say 60-70% have no problem with it. However, when you are holding a game outside of traditional college football time/date frames that 25-40% have a significant problems or difficulties with it, then you are increasing the negative approval rating.

For many it has become even more of concern since we only have 6 home games, have a high price per game, and from the start either cannot make it, or have a shortened game, tailgate, football experience benefit.

I think everyone would say fine if the numbers were clear that it has had an increase or if we were full TV coverage. But since not, it is time to rediscuss it.

Personally, it makes sense to go back to Saturday for a time or two for a couple of reasons.
1. See what impact it has on attendance, both total and students.
2. If no change, or worse, then no one should complain if it goes back to Thursdays.

Bottom line, in my opnion, this is not a case of complaining, it is reasoned discussion by a group of fans. Fine to disagree on either side, but just calling anyone a complainer is not really helpful either.

I heard something a few years ago about the benefit of having extra days to practice, watch tape, and work out the kinks for the second game of the season. That seems to make some sense to me since it is popular saying that the most progress is made between the first and second games of the season. This year it even gives extra days to prep for the Iowa game.

As a parent of two you kids, Thursday games aren't my favorite. I am leaving my 2 year old at home with grandma so he will get to sleep at a decent hour. My 5 month old will be sleeping on my shoulder during the game. Yay!

Well, I suppose it's "inconsequential" enough that it's a major factor in why I didn't renew tickets this year. And I know I'm not the only one.

But whatever .....

It doesn't work well for everyone. So those people don't have a right to voice their opinion about it? That's nice.

HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!

The reason that was given for the initial Thursday night game was it increased chances of the game being on national television since not many other teams have a game that night. We have not seen this thursday night game broadcast nationally ever, so that excuse is not legit.

I think attendance is down overall for this game. Reported attendance and actual attendance is very different, as I think a lot of season ticket holders skip this game because it is a Thursday game. There are a lot of late arrivers and early leavers. It makes the weekend very long and empty when ISU does not play.

Untrue

Giving up on an entire season of football because of one game? Seems a bit much. :)

I didn't say that.

As it is, I gave it up because of 4 games. Not really worth the grand + to possibly only make 3. I love ISU - but I refuse to pay upwards and over 300 per game.

We'll see what next year brings.

I love it!!! By the time August rolls around I'd give anything to get to see the Cyclones early... This way I can also check out the UNI opener in Iowa City. Makes for a great start to the season :)

I love the Thursday night game. I have a 4 day work week so, I'm always off on Fridays anyhow. With the Monday holiday, by taking off Thursday to drive to Ames for the game I get a 5-day weekend!

You are spot on, IMO. Labor Day weekend hasn't caused other universities to schedule on Thurs. They're almost all playing on Sat. anyway.

Where did you and ISUFan22 get this power to "size up" other people just off this message board? It's amazing...

The Thursday night game could also allow the coaches to get out to see potential recruits on Friday night when they usually are preparing for a game on Saturday. Face time could prove advantageous to our effort.
