funny how our 2-star high school running back turns out to be our best returner and very effective WR. And a walk on from des moines.

Did darius Reynolds end up getting his medical redshirt?

It can not technically be asked for until after next season; however, I believe it is correct to assume based on comments by CPR and The City that he should qualify,as he meets the requirements (basically, injured and out for season before 30% of season played; 4/13 = 30.7%).

What depth?
Hmmm.....Lets see...right now the receivers ahead of him would be Darks, Money, Lenz, and Williams. Chris Young will also likely be ahead of him if he lives up to the hype. Also dont be surprised if Jarvis West is ahead of him and used in that slot reciever look for screens like Lenz was this year. Thats not mentioning Blanton or Carlton. 3 receivers are usually on the field...so that would likely be Darks, Money, and Williams. Then Chris Young. Then Sedrick. That Depth.

Lots of potential...but that's just a short way of saying "you haven't done anything yet". I couldn't care less how many stars they have.

Lets hope we can finally get some consistent production from this position. We need these guys to start stretching the field to open up the shorter/quick patterns and help the running game.

Also need them to get some YAC. Hopefully we can get more yards out of plays.

The way Jake Williams has played has almost made me forget about S Johnson.. Jake has stepped up amazingly.. But if all of thw wide outs can get on the same page.. could be a fun team to watch

who will be next years "jake williams" on offense?

Ah ok you have a different definition of depth than I do. Just because you have a lot of players at a position, doesn't mean you have depth at it. Depth is when you have QUALITY players at that position.

When you have to rely on a walk on and a true freshmen at WR, it shows that you have no depth at the position.

Donnie Jennert. From what I'm hearing, he will definitely be in the mix for playing time next year.

A lot can be said about the kind of depth we could have next year, regardless of what your definition of talent is.

If all you have is 3 or 4 highly regarded ("4 star") WRs, and nobody else to push them to show what kind of game they really have, all of a sudden they seem "average". It goes back to motivation ("someone will do just enough not to get fired.")

As soon as the Jake Williams' etc. show they are legitimate candidates (or better than a "lazy" player with seemingly better ability), the SJs, DDs and the like better turn it up, or they're sliding off the depth chart.

Some of these guys have been told their whole lives they are the greatest things in the world, but have never truly been challenged to prove it.

This is one of the many defining differences between programs who 'recruit' and those who 'RELOAD'. I'm not saying we're there yet, but this could be a sign we are moving in the right direction.

i would consider "depth" to be: players returning who have lots of yardage or multiple starts for those players who cannot accumulate stats (o line).

We certainly don't want to ever start a walkon, no matter how good he is. If we followed 85's thinking Jeff Hornacek would have never played. There are probably dozens on walkons who have turned into stars, just as many 2 or 3 star players have done so. To make statements like that, in such a definitve manner is the thing that keeps kicking 85 in the a** when he is shown to be so so wrong so many times.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Lenz progresses next year. I'm not sure he will ever be a game breaker but I bet he gets better and better every year and by the time he is a jr/sr will be a key possession receiver for this team.

The Minnesota Vikings receiving corp looked pretty damn average.......until this year.
