Here's my thoughts....
OSU - excellent offensive team - as bad if not worse then ISU defensively....statistically and facts are facts...they've only held 1 opponent all season below 24 points. I know i know - i dont need any brain surgeons to tell me thats because they score so much. However, the easiest way to beat a great offense is keep the ball away from the opposition. ISU has two weeks to prepare, and they will watch what KSU did to keep the game close and gave themselves a chance to win there. Plus, the weather will be a factor for their passing offense....guys not used to playin in the cold!!!! Alls it will take is one crossing the middle haymaker from Mr. Washington or Givens and Blackmon will rethink the crossing pattern which is their bread and butter. Not to mention we're sandwiched between TTech and Oklahoma, this team could easily be looking past lowly isu...Mr. Barnett needs to have an efficient game passing but more importantly in the rushing game. Limit mistakes, penalties, and execute. What has impressed me the most since Barnett has become the starter has been the 3rd down execution, far superior to Steele. To me, for a team like ISU, thats how you win ballgames!!!! Sustain drives, keep defense fresh. If we go 3 and out 3 and out 3 and out, we may be out of our game by the end of the first quarter....if we keep their offense on the sideline and have long sustained drives...the pressure mounts...ask Texas Tech...
ISU 38 Okie State 24

Oklahoma...to me, one of the toughest defenses in the nation. This would be a monumental upset not because of ranking but rather the competition. With the injury to Broyles, i think the defense will take more of the lead on winning games. To me, if we can score on them, we could be successful. I'm not overly wowed by their offense, but, they seem to post big numbers - thats consistency!!!! Currently ranked with 50th rushing attack and 3 passing with 6th total in offense....quietly.....scary team. However, the footprint is out there, tech and even A&M because both games were close or loses. Not sure if we can get this game done, but, would be a program changer!!!!
Oklahoma 41 ISU 13

Lastly by not least - KSU - cant wait for that ol bird to move on...Bill Snyder is nothing short of AMAZING...Ron Prince screwed that situation up and it only took Bill 3 years to turn them into contenders again....thats impressive, i dont care what players he's using!!!!
Can't believe that defenses are not simply loading the box...wow they're 112th in passing - why not isolate them and say try to beat me, i'm gonna run blitz every down....However, the bad thing about this game is that KSU has 2 weeks to prepare, thats not good! But as others have said, before us is oklahoma, oklahoma state, a&M, Texas....they could be beat up and confidence shaken. We will see where they are this week with A&M because that defense will be tested. Conversely, their rushing defense is ranked 12th but gave up nearly 500 yards passing to texas tech...so why run it...pass it to open up the rush, besides, we will get our rushing yards out of Barnett on those deep drops they just seem to open up nice rushing lanes which pull lineman out of their assignments and allow those long scrambles. I foresee this game very close - isu could pull this off - in my mind, it will depend on how the Okie state game and okie game goes...if those are 60-17 blowouts, then the mental side of things will not be good going into this game. If we keep those games close or win one/both, the mental side will be much better.
ISU 31- KSU28

There it is folks - i'm going out on a limb and saying we finish with a 7-5 record (same as EIU) and we get a lot of pub out of shocking the world with beating OSU and setting up the rematch of Alabama and LSU for national Title....

Here's my thoughts....

good stuff. i think we can hang with OK-State as well. 31-30 like vs Nebraska last year (win or lose).

10 days out weather forecast: 30 degrees with precipitation!

Oklahoma states defense is better than advertised. They score so much so quickly, the defense ends up playing a lot. They held baylor to 49-3 to start the game before baylor had a TON of garbage yards.

how about hope for a big injury. A QB going out the week before ISU plays any of the 3 schools and that is good news!

I think it's pretty low to hope for an injury on the opposing team, especially a big one. Roughing them up is good, hitting hard is good, etc, but to hope for a big injury is low in my mind. You have to remember that is just a young kid out there doing what he loves.

Good optimistic view, but the pessimist in me think that the Clones will have a hard time scoring over thirty points for the rest of the season. The only way we win any of the next few games is if the defense can come to play. I believe the only way we win is if we can keep the score low. Which I can't see it happening against the schools in Oklahoma but their is a good chance it happens against Kansas State.

Don't remove the intangibles.

Kansas State is looking at a major skid coming into the ISU game if things stay the way they are. Offensively, I'm still stunned that no one has really shut them down outside of OU. Klein is a great runner, but he can't throw, and their running backs are decent at best. They run the damn Wildcat every down, but no one seems to bother stacking the box.

Anyway, KSU will likely have nothing to play for against ISU. The game will not impact what happens at the end of their season. They will be out of the conference title race, have no hope for an at-large BCS bid, and will be in a warm weather bowl. If ISU is healthy for that game, we can go into Manhattan and win. It wouldn't be the most shocking victory Rhoads has put together, that's for sure.

I see little to no chance against OSU and OU, both of whom will be in the National title hunt when we play them.

I used to feel this way too. Felt like K State's probable 4 game skid would help us. After more thought I have changed my mind.
K State will be itching for a win. Skeletor will emphasize ending the conf season on a high note and improving their bowl stock.
No, im certain now that a 4 game skid for K state will hurt us more than help us.

i think we finish the year with a 3 game losing streak, and I'm sorry but those are the 3 of the best teams in the conference, Ok state will probably be playing in the national championship and i just don't see us beating them

Easily this could be a three game skid where ISU loses each game by 30+... and I suppose that they will be huge underdogs each game. There is little hope. That is why I think that at least one of these games will shock the world!

Lockett for KSU is out this week for sure with an injury and it sounds like he could be out for the year. That would limit their poor passing game even more.

No I don't have a link they were talking about it on 810 radio yesterday.

Dude is also averaging 35 yards per return on kickoffs, with 2 TDs. Would be quite a blow to them.

This is the kind of ridiculous optimism that CPR rewards time and again. Like the title of the post says, we've got three chances. Three chances to become bowl eligible, define the season and the program, and continue on the success that CPR is building. It's a great time to be a Cyclone!

Beginning of season, I honestly didn't think we'd have a shot against UConn (I thought we'd score 10) or Iowa. I was hoping for wins against five of the following six: Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, KU, Mizzou, and K-State.

So trade UConn and Iowa for Texas and Baylor. Mizzou is the loss. K-State is a much harder task than I thought it would be, but I also don't think it is impossible.

But in terms of the elements setting up for us: home field, senior night, weather, our best (defense) against their best (offense), OSU actually looks like the better chance.

Of course, that means I have to disregard the fact that OSU has made a habit of torching us in recent years.

And, as it is the next game on the menu, I'll happily do that!

CPR has beaten every go-forward Big 12 team that he's coached against other than the last three teams on the schedule this year. This is the first time he will face both Oklahoma schools in the same season, and gets them back to back at their collective strongest stretch in history. Kansas State may not be as good as their record, but they took OSU to the wire on the road. As unlikely as it seems, I still see Rhoads getting his first career win against one of these schools this year. All three teams have looked elite at times, but have weaknesses. All three are relatively one-dimensional on offense, and have given up points in spurts on defense. Oklahoma offenses are built to come from behind, so we'd need a 2009 Nebraska-type meltdown to beat them. We had trouble with UNI's mobile qb, but hopefully we've improved in that situation.

No matter what, we are guaranteed to have the third consecutive season where every single game has mattered. Even if we lose out and miss a bowl at 5-7 for the second straight year, that is about as impressive of a start as anyone could expect at ISU!

What is a "go-forward" team?
