Bernie Maddoff(sp) was one of the richer guys in the country. Who is anyone else to say he's not doing things right?

probably not a good idea to compare him to someone who stole millions of dollars and ruined the lives of many.

Bernie made his millions by not following the law.

If someone comes out and says Tiger is juicing, or that he's playing illegal equipment or he's somehow cheating otherwise, you might have some sort of argument there.

As far as anyone knows, he's not doing any of those things.

There is no swearing rule in the rules of golf. There's no being a baby rule in the rules of golf.

The PGA, on the other hand, does have some standards to which it holds it's professionals, but Tiger hasn't fallen afoul of those yet (nor will he ever anytime soon, if the PGA want's to remain in any way relevant).

Ahhh, I can't wait until golf has their own version of TO. That will be great for the sport and society.

Some people expect the best to actually be the best. Tiger is the best golfer, but he's not the best sport. It's sad how we as society think it is wrong to hold public figures to a higher standard. Isn't that the definition of public figure?

Edit: Of course in today's media environment, everyone is a public figure, so my argument is diminished somewhat.

I never said Tiger was breaking the rules...just having fun. I think he's a complete baby but it's certainly within the rules and may even help him win. Not sure how though.

The PGA did have their own version of TO, more or less. His name is John Daly.

Who really cares how much of a sport a pro is? It is totally irrelevant. I watch college athletics because I like sportsmanship. I watch the pros because I want to see the best of the best.

There is no reason that a public figure should be held to a higher standard, especially in this day and age when ANYONE can be a public figure. People are just people. The desire to turn people who are really good at things into some sort of hero or figurehead is one of the biggest issues I see in society today.

Tiger Woods is a great golfer. Terrell Owens is a great football player. Charles Barkley was a great basketball player. There's no reason to somehow make them more than that, though. The ONLY reason people do, I think, is because of marketing that is constantly shoved down our throats. Marketing from the PGA, and the NFL and the NBA and everyone associated with them. Nike, Reebok, ESPN.

Agreed. I wonder how many people didn't watch the British because the media said you weren't supposed to watch (with Tiger not making the cut). The force feeding of these personalities is what creates the expectations. We're constantly told they are the greatest thing ever, and when we learn they are actually human, it is suprising.
