Yea, I have a hard time hating TT MBB. I didn't see much whining, they hustle and have a lot of talent. I wouldn't mind another game with them in the Big XII Tourney - would make a nice final. I think this is the type of team you play that makes you better.Hard not to like that man.
I have zero inside info, but I wouldn’t be surprised if isu bball had been paying players (on a much smaller scale) for a bit tooWhenever I think Bill Self might be alright, I like to remind myself that he's been doing full-blown NIL for 20+ years, when the rest of us only recently got to pay players with impunity. Also can't think of any other programs that have been investigated by the friggin' FBI.
I'm sure he's perhaps a nice guy on a personal level but concerning hoops, he's a cheating scumbag.

We had the self reported recruiting violations with Fred and if I recall correctly, something with Monte and a dinner with a coach or booster?I have zero inside info, but I wouldn’t be surprised if isu bball had been paying players (on a much smaller scale) for a bit too
Yep. I get he's got a "personality" but when he doubled down in the spying and didn't come out and say "misunderstanding" and instead stuck to his story to the point TJ came out to clear the air, total affirmation Tang is a dope.Agreed. Tang is a dbag. The crap he pulled last year in Ames is something I’ve never seen before from a coach at any level.
I think the intensity of defense and sprinting back all the time (and having he legs/depth to sustain) is such a game changer. And that culture is what we are ....when recruited they know the work happens in June at 6am at conditioning, etc. and of course, the team culture of guys all playing a role and part is very noticableI also think Otz is vastly superior to Hoiberg in OOB and ATO plays. Fred seemed to just identify mismatches and let players go one on one where Otz is manufacturing plays. Also Otz loves a good defensive curveball like a trap or switch to zone that often results in a turnover
Full class is the perfect description of the culture TJ has built. Do things the right way, play the game the right way, work hard or don’t play, no one man is bigger than the program. The list goes on. But encapsulated in a single phrase, Full class is spot on!Yep. I get he's got a "personality" but when he doubled down in the spying and didn't come out and say "misunderstanding" and instead stuck to his story to the point TJ came out to clear the air, total affirmation Tang is a dope.
BUT, that statement by TJ was baller....and with time affirms one coach was wrong and one has full class.
For us old guys, almost like the old Big 8 coaches.Tang is the only one I hate. Even Self is growing on me over the years. Most others are respectable and hard not to like.
I'll have to go back and check, but I think Heise only took 6 shots total, so not 8 after his first 3.I thought that was Heises worst game but he did a very nice job on the boards, but if you miss your first 3, there’s no way he should be taking 8 more shots when you have Curt, Tamin, and Gilbert on the floor
I think it was Peter Jok. He wanted to come to ISU, then ended up being a hok due to the violation. We had the self reported recruiting violations with Fred and if I recall correctly, something with Monte and a dinner with a coach or booster?
Point being, it is hard to believe that that’s the only two incidents with recruiting violations/improper benefits for players.
I have always said, it is naive to believe that your team is completely above board with everything at this level. I am convinced that under the old rules, all teams did things that were at least in some gray areas.
Unfortunately, Milan cannot get his own shot unless he's in the low post and takes his fadeaway. Opposing teams are aware of his 3-pt shooting prowess and are not letting him get an open look. And, he's not posting up as much, probably due to us wanting to get the ball to Jackson & Jefferson. Having him on the floor opens the court up for dribble penetration because his man has to stay at the 3-pt line on Milan. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see many plays designed to give him an outside or inside shot.Interesting to see Milan on the bench again at end of OT. I get Chatfield brings a different presence (screening, maybe a putback if you have time). But Milan is also a guy that can get his own shot - and a good one. Not to mention floor spacing.
For what it’s worth he was wide open on three point line at end of regulation. Keshon cleared out and made that passing lane open for Jefferson which is obviously your first look.
I wonder how much of that was drawn up and practiced versus how much improvised. Seems like it worked exactly as hoped for
If I remember right, Fred gave some junior coaching position to a former Cyclone (Keith “Lefty” Moore I think), and the guy went to a couple AAU tourneys outside of the designated recruiting periods to watch Jok. To Fred’s credit I think he self-reported and cut the coach loose. Fred stopped recruiting Jok after that.I think it was Peter Jok. He wanted to come to ISU, then ended up being a hok due to the violation.
I think he knows the old KU shoebox recruiting advantage is over. Just enjoy his millions.Self seems like he has relaxed a bit as he has gotten older. He is much more fun to watch when he's just enjoying the game
