I don't view this as a controversy as I prefaced by saying I completely trust the judgement of Campbell and staff. A coach that already has a book on how to implement a football program surely has some ideas on this issue. It creates an interesting situation from a managerial perspective for the reasons I suggested and I'm excited to learn of Campbell's approach. I expect he'll have a clear path of milestones that need to be completed to earn playing time. The infamous Toledo Football fan would probably have a pretty good idea of what to expect?

I would think this has been discussed completely in staff meetings and also by the player counsel, which I assume CMC put in place at ISU. Then, Tonga, the coaches, and the player counsel were all made aware of the PLAN for him joining the team and earning playing time. I believe page 256, section 6, letter c of "THE PLAN" titled, BIG ASS talented lineman, how can we make this work!"

I knew you would make me laugh, forgot about the players council. That will get buy in from the players no matter what the situation or what they decide.

Highly doubt he plays against UNI. Maybe if there's garbage time, but even then there is no way he is proper football condition. Then he chances injuring something early on, not worth the risk.

Tongamoa is going to be the easiest entry in the look-alike thread ever.

How can we lose anything with Maui on our side?

What can he say besides you're welcome?

Silly talk to me, this isn't a discipline issue, it is a clearinghouse issue which happens. Whether or not he plays depends on if he can help the team, and whether or not playing would risk injury due to conditioning. I think we will see him in limited action at least by Iowa. If he rolls out as a starter or is in early against UNI I will take that as a very good sign.

Or a bad sign about the rest of the Dline if someone can come in and in a week be more productive. ;-)

I really give this kid credit for getting things taken care of and giving himself a chance to get invested and involved with the team. Probably could have just gone another route in some way but it makes it pretty clear he wants to play at Iowa State.

This is an interesting group for ISU football and it might be fun to watch them put some things together.

Campbell will do anything to make the team better including summoning the mythical beast tongamoa who is unleashed through the power of a full eclipse in order to defeat the dark magic of the vampire known as bill snyder

He admitted to being out of shape, not sure how taking online courses keeps one from working out, running sprints etc.
Never happy me wishes he would shown up fit and ready to play, but I'll celebrate his arrival. He's young, he'll bounce back quickly.
His game plan knowledge and physical conditioning should come together at the same time.
Sooner than later let's hope!

Big difference between being in shape and being in game shape.

He will see snaps because of talent alone. His conditioning and ability to pick up the defense will determine how much.

He will start with very limited snaps(unless we have large leads) but by the last four or six games he will be playing quite a bit, if not starting.

There is probably something that he excels at, and he will probably see the field in these situations. He may be a great short yardage guy, or a guy that can collapse the pocket. It has been so painful to watch the ISU defense completely flounder at the end of games when they so desperately need somebody, anybody to just make a play. Maybe he can be that guy

It's such an annoying thing. I can lift/run/cardio etc in the gym and have the abs out and then go try to play full court against guys that appear to be "out of shape" and they are running circles around me and I'm hunched over grabbing shorts in 5 minutes because the only thing they do is play pick up basketball games.

Maybe lay off the Twinkies a little, though.
