I think I saw they expect McMillan and Williams to play, but as of now, they aren’t sure how much they will play. Also…Toppin wasn’t right at Big12’s either. Now…that appeared to be mostly an illness, but never know how that might impact him.
Yeah, definitely something worth monitoring. Don't think I'll be picking them to be upset first round, but will have to make a decision about advancing them to the 2nd weekend.

Drake isn't happening, the darling upset picks never come true and Slow-paced team historically do poor in march madness outside of a few outliers like Virginia (they did lose to a 16 seed as well)

my upset pick is VCU over BYU. VCU plays tough defense, and I think BYU can struggle against someone that doesn't let them get open shots like Houston did to them in the tournament.

I think Drake's pace is going to infuriate Mizzou. I also don't think Mizzou is a great defensive team. It kinda reminds me of our game against UAB, but with less of a talent gap.

Upsets are going to get less common as the resources gap widens and we're starting to see it already.

The advanced metrics/stats are part of that too. Coaches have better intel on what they should worry about, and when they are better in different situations - it isn't just "gut feel" anymore.

The Drake game comes down to how frustrated Missouri gets. Drake is going to get their tempo, can Missouri play in the quarter court and make good decisions with the ball in a low possession game?

Overall this tournament feels kind of 'chalk-y' to me. I don't see a ton of upsets. I can see Grand Canyon giving Maryland fits for a while and Colorado State frustrating Memphis but I think the higher seeds win both. I think Montana will play with Wisconsin for a while.

I don't know about this gap necessarily. NIL if anything has reduced it so far. Schools like VCU shell out more for NIL than some P5s do, possibly even Iowa State

Colorado St over Memphis, who seems radically overseeded to me.

I don't think Yale surprises anyone again.

I like BYU over Bama - if they get past VCU...

Feels pretty chalky to me this year in general. Lot of distance between the top 4-6 teams, and the next 8-10.
VCU to the Sweet 16 over BYU and Wisconsin.

What are some trendy upset picks you see but aren’t buying? Others not many are taking about but you think can happen?

I can see many still on the Drake bandwagon. Missouri is not as good as a few weeks ago but I still think Tigers win.

A&M will not lose to Yale.

Clemson won’t lose to McNeese

I’m not picking it but I think UNCW will give Tech fits.

I do think VCU beats BYU

Also leaning towards Akron over AZ

CSU over Mem is an easy pick to me
I think Jacob Ognacevic goes off and Lipscomb upsets Iowa State.

On the Drake Mizzou game, I haven't looked into it much yet, but if Mizzou is run and gun and very guard heavy I think Drake matches up well. If Mizzou has a semi dependable big man or athletic wings, I don't think Drake has a prayer.

It's not a first round upset, but Louisville v Auburn in round 2. It really should be a sweet 16 matchup based on the team strengths but Lexington might as well be a home game for Louisville.

I was just about to mention Auburn-Louisville in Lexington. That was an absolute hose-job by the committee. I still think Auburn gets by Louisville, but I also would not be terribly surprised is Auburn gets taken out by a virtual home game for Louisville.

Memphis who struggled with both Wichita State and Tulane is, imo, not getting past a Colorado State who’s rolling now. VCU another one. High Point because it’s funny if Purdue loses in round 1 again. UCSD could surprise Michigan, who’s playing better now, but has had some close calls too.

Creighton over Louisville is a good upset pick as well.

I'm probably wrong but I'm going with Louisville to E8. Get their first two games in Lexington.
That is a very favorable draw for them. I guess color me skeptical because they fed on a weak ACC all season. But playing devils advocate to myself, this Creighton team is somewhat underwhelming also.

I am really struggling with Michigan and UCSD. Michigan is playing much better but UCSD causes the most turnovers in the country and Michigan is turnover prone.

I gotta go with UCSD and VCU for sure. Their NET and KP ratings are actually very high and very close to both BYU and Michigan.
