Is there any chance we can buyout this game and replace it w/ someone new? I can't imagine either team is looking forward to seeing each other 3 times in 13 months

I would really love that. Would make people less angry about this rematch and would allow us to have another home game. And with the way attendance has been we could probably afford it. Not to mention it would be super awesome to have 7 home games as opposed to 6. It would have to be a FBS team though since we already play UNI, which is unlikely.

I actually wouldn't mind to FCS teams either since I think anything less than 7 wins would be considered a failure anyway.

Instead of a buyout, shouldn't both teams want to mutually cancel the game and schedule someone else?

Now this I can get behind. I can't complain about having to play them in a bowl because we didn't play well enough this year to deserve better IMO.

BUT... I would love it if we could get out of playing them again next year. I would think that if both Tulsa and ISU can find replacements to play at home, they would do this.

I doubt it's a possibility. Our non-conference slate is screwy next year anyway with two bye weeks. That's thanks to conference realignment.

No you know how tough it is for Tulsa to get BCS teams to play us at our place?
From an Iowa State perspective, we get 3 OOC games. Iowa and a FCS teams. Each year we have 1 game to play a fresh face. To have Tulsa be that "fresh face" after playing you twice the year before is kind of lame for us. No offense to your team.

It doesn't happen often because it shouldn't happen, no offense. We have way more money now than we did 8 years ago when this was scheduled and I think the home game is worth more than what the buyout would cost.

You would think that the Liberty Bowl payout, a sold-out JTS, and the TV money for the home game would at least offset whatever the buyout would be.

Mutual buyout virtually impossible as I can't see Tulsa finding a similar type of team to play at their place next year.

We buyout or play and I assume we'll just play the game.

It's a road game after all. I'm personally not impacted on the game next year. The rematch this year is a buzzkill.

A buyout is a waste of money, just play the game.

Depends. If we could find someone to come play here in ames (thats the real trick on this short notice), it could potentially be worth it based on increased revenue. If nothing else it adds value for season ticketholders.

Don't buy it out. Karma will cause Big 12 to extend an invite to Tulsa and then we'll have to do home and homes for the foreseeable future. :jimlad:

Should still be a very winnable game...just play it. We can use the money for much more important things at this point.

False. If it cost us, say $500,000 to buy out and we get a team to come to Jack Trice for $500,000 we would basically break even since we net about $1,000,000 per home game. That's without any extra TV money or consideration for the exposure we might get for cyclones.tv. Or the fact that is softens our schedule considerably.

This actually gives us a pretty solid out for a buyout, with the 3 times in a year situation.
