You can use any box that isn't associated with the genie set up. What I use are standard definition boxes. I just recently called DIRECTV and threatened to switch companies unless they gave me a box for free. The cost is $69 for the box initially, and then the charge per month is $6.50. You can call DIRECTV and put your box into hibernation for 6 months out of a 12 month period. I have 2 standard definition boxes so I just rotate them out for the off season.

What directv receiver do you use for your winegard? I have the genie setup at my house and the only receiver that is not genie capable is my H25-100 which from my understanding I will need a SWM-840 which is roughly $100. I am thinking about just buying an additional receiver (D12-100) strictly for tailgating, anyone know what the cost would be to add this for a couple of months?

I have the H25. The Winegard comes with instructions on how to program the box to run off of that satellite as it is a different than your setting at home (real easy to do). I use this receiver for my 2nd TV in my basement game room during sport seasons so they charge me $6 a month to keep active all year long.

Are there wifi signals out in the lots for the public to hook up to?

I've never been able to pick up one in the Vet Med lot. What I did last year was fortunately we have access to a phone with unlimited data so we would setup a hot spot on that phone, then the tablet I have connected to that and used the Dish Anywhere app for dish network then just ran an adapter I have for the tablet to a TV. Worked pretty smooth, I use my tablet for the same thing for my TV in my garage at home so I don't have to pay for another receiver but the trick for tailgating is you need some kind of Wi-Fi and chances are most people don't have unlimited data so you'd probably burn through a lot of data if you don't have that luxury

You shouldn't have to change your service address as they make the tailgater for RV traveling and you should have no issues in G6 as there are no obstacles in the way.

Took your advice and just got my Winegard Carryout last weekend with a new 32 inch Samsung! I called Directv and they said for me to change my address when I'm making the drive up from Grimes to Ames zip that way I get the local stations. Tailgating can't come soon enough.

Let me know if changing your zip code works as I have been told that you cannot get locals on the Winegard no matter what. I have an antenna to get the locals.

Also, I went to setup my receiver to run on the Winegard last night so I wouldn't have to mess with it Saturday morning and the best satellite setup is Option one with a multiswitch. its a different setup in the menu then what I had used last year.
