UNLV being 17 spots ahead of us despite not being ranked in the last 12 years is wild. Don't think I ever realized how far behind we are historically

I looked at our record against big 12/big 8 teams the other day and it’s not pretty. We got smoked a lot in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s

Looks like we could move up to low 40s fast and then it becomes lots of teams that still often get ranked.

Would be cool if they could turn this data into one of those motion graphs on youtube.

So quick math, given there are ~20 polls per season, the max # of points per year is around 500. Low 40's is still 3 years away IF we can get 300 points per year!

I find this stuff fun, but it is a long game to move up!

Yes, rather depressing. However, all that matters now is that we are catching up! Go Cyclones!

I've always been a die-hard Cyclone fan since my grandpa and dad both went there; but my first memories as a kid and fan growing up in the 70's - it was BAD. But my freshman year at ISU was Johnny Orr's first year and boy did things change quickly. It would be nice to see how we stack up since 1980.

Exactly. A lot of these schools are living off the past when we live in the now. It’s like Minnesota bragging that they have 7 football national titles and we are supposed to respect that. Ummm no, what u did in the 50’s is way long ago. Same with UNLV fans acting like they are a blue blood even though they have did nothing since 1980’s

Not good. Orr has two seasons with >500 record in conference. I suspect not a lot of time ranked with those kind of records. With exception of a 4 year stretch this did not improve much under Floyd, Eustachy, Morgan or McDermott.

True but we didn't spend a lot of time ranked in the Orr years. His overall win % at ISU was barely above 50% and conference win % was close to 40. Don't get me wrong I love Johnny and have his autograph hanging in my office. But his team were not good on the road and were typically middle of the conference.

Just passed some no name team with an off brand cardinal and gold color scheme.

If I did my math correctly we have a chance to get as high as 49 by season ends. Vanderbilt is now in the top 25 so would need them to lose some games

Thanks for doing the math. I started looking into it, then got pulled away. I had been curious if LSU would be out-of-reach for this season (Auburn, of course, will stay ahead of us).

Yea it would take about ~15ish weeks to pass LSU. I think there is only 8 AP polls left for this year
