My boys - for sport- hunt coyotes. Mainly during the fall fur harvesting seasons even though they can hunt year round. The pelts are worth $5. A few years ago the pelts would bring $40 to $50 and you couldnt find a coyote around. The market got flooded and now no one wants to do it for $5.

The boys do everything from calling and rifles, night scopes, to footholds, to snares. On top of the $5 a pelt, finding farm kids who still do this are also a dying commodity ie comments above on raccoons, rabbits, skunks etc etc.

Now skunks...... those pelts are worth $20 a piece! The boys are making a fortune skinning skunks. And yes, they smell absolutely atrocious but my wife has found a very reliable and fantastic laundry detergent, soap and shampoo the boys have to instantly use when they get in. There 1st $200 went to buying a used clothes washer we put in the shop.
I think your boys should start a YouTube channel.

That's hilarious you say that! I have told them to do that over and over and over. You look at them and they blend right in. Above average athletes, good human beings, fantastic students, they look just like a typical teenage boy. But their definition of fun is not a typical teenage boy. They are currently on a flooded river setting trot lines for flathead catfish. Most parents would be nervous as all get out, at this point it has become second nature. Then when they come home they'll grab a snack and watch silly youtube videos of some guy in Missouri doing the exact same thing they just did.

If they are already going through the pain of skinning skunks, they are bringing a small fortune at Fur Harvester auctions up in Ontario. The June sale this year 100% sold and averaged $80 a piece. Would have to flesh and stretch them, but that's pretty tame compared to skinning them.
