IIRC both UA and UU were too good to be in the truckstop conference. They were predicted to challenge for the conference title, along with OSU and KU (all four are at the bottom). KSU is the outlier; and I think they have the biggest chance at beating ISU.

ASU, not UA. UA was all in.

Outside of Utah, I have a hard time rooting against anyone in our conference, except for anyone playing ISU! I saw a post that said polls are dumb. They aren’t in the sense that they are the way to stay relevant. We need to be savvy about positioning teams to get into the playoff. What that means, I don’t really know.

I couldn’t agree more. The only thing that matters to me at this point is winning a conference championship trophy. I don’t care about the playoffs. Change my mind.
I suppose math could change your mind? I think jtc projected a lot in their comment, as this sub-thread started with wanting Utah to beat BYU. Mred has this fantastic calculator to project potential outcomes and BYU losing to Utah really has very little impact on ISU and our chances to make the Big 12 Champ. Colorado needs about 10 things to happen outside of their control to make it. So it comes down to KState, sure having them lose a game helps ISU out a bit but honestly if we lose to KState at home do we really "deserve" to be in the championship game over them? Call me crazy but I'd rather ISU earn it by beating KState. We can still drop a game until then but if we beat KState at 11-1 we'd still be in the Championship.

They had a brief run in the 80’s but they were more of a laughing stock for failing in spectacular ways.
That’s what I remember too. Every time they would get into the top 10 you just knew they were about to get clobbered by 40 points the first time they matched up against another ranked team. Then they got Deshaun Watson, Travis Etienne, Trevor Lawerence, and a bunch of other studs and really changed that narrative.

Hell even if you take sports out of it, there's something wonderful about seeing someone get humbled in a very public manner.
Totally. It’s part of what makes the super teams so annoying. For whatever reason human nature can lead to some fans making their team’s success almost part of their identity. Like my team is the best so that almost makes me a better person than you because your team lost.

It’s so satisfying watching those people get humbled.

Like you said, I’m sure there are examples outside of sports of people with a big head that get humbled too but they don’t ever seem to bother me as badly as sports.

Like in sports the fan did nothing themselves so why do they gloat when some 20yo kids win a game like they had something to do with it?

NIL will probably make it worse because if you throw a few thousand bucks to the collective you can convince yourself that YOU won the game as much as the kids.

FWIW, prior to FSU joining the ACC, Clemson had more ACC football championships (13) than any other school. As it is now, Clemson still leads with 21 all-time, FSU with 16 and Maryland with 9.
