We were front and center at Welch Ave watching that game. It's not only the horrible call at the end of the game, but how does MSU get to basically play a home game in the round of 8?

The gods were against us from the start of that game.

MSU deserved a home site. They were a legit #1 seed. The thing is, we were too and shouldn't have been in the same region as them.

Arizona was a #1 and lost in the 2nd round.
Duke was a #1 and lost in the 3rd round.
Standford was a #1 and lost in the 2nd round.

Clearly we got jobbed in the seeding. We should have been a #1, and at the very least shouldn't have been in the same region as Mich St.

Didn't we end up ranked #2 at the end of the season?

I thought we finished #5.

I'm trying to find the final rankings from that season on Google. Not having much luck.

You're probably right though! Probably just me remember things incorrectly to make myself feel better. :)

I had a printout of the final rankings hanging in my office for a long time. We were #3.

I would like to have the UCLA game. I loved how we throttled those guys.

Agreed. If I'm going to relive one, this is the one, not the brutal loss... Why not just package the MSU game with the Hampton game in a 2 DVD set? :arghh::arghh::arghh:

I think we were #3 in one poll (after Mich St and Florida) and #5 in another.

The way I see it, I think the NCAA didn't deem us 1-seed-worthy (which is complete BS IMO), and they thought that they were doing us a favor by putting us in Minneapolis for the first two rounds. Unfortunately, that led to a direct run-in with Mich St. for the regional final. I think if the NCAA was using the "pod" system back in 2000 like they're using now we don't play Mich St in the regional final.

Yeah, we can dub it "The Masochist's Special (sponsored by the ISU CUFFS Club)"

I have a VHS tape with Sweet 16 (UCLA) and Final 8 back to back. Tape cuts off right as Larry strides up the tunnel out of the arena. Fitting. I've never seen the F word used in more combinations than that night...and that was in my living room.

On a related note, a buddy and I met the team at the airport that night. Walked out with Shirley. He was shocked people were consoling him, almost like he had cost us the game.
