Sorry, you just seemed to be attacking Wal-Mart based off of something you 'had heard'. I know a few people who work there (I'm from Council Bluffs, bound to know a few, right?), and each one of them has benefits. Each one of them loves their job. But each one of them shows up & sticks around for more than 6 months, so that doesn't fit the agenda of people who try to drag the company down.

Most companies are going to try to maximize profits when they can (especially ones that employ thousands of people). Those same companies usually still recognize when they have somebody good, and will pay $11.50/hour to push carts as mentioned earlier in this thread. The whole topic just irritates me, I guess. If you're worth more than minimum wage (after showing up for a month or 2!!), you will be paid more than minimum wage. Yes, even by Wal-Mart.
I was going off of reports that I had read, but I read them back around the Recession, so I don't know how accurate they are any more, and I don't remember the details of them well enough to cite, so I went with "had heard" or read.

Anyway, I don't really have a dog in the fight, but was pointing out what tend to be corporate tactics to maximize profits in ways that at least appear to be harmful to others. Whether we like it or not, it happens, but to what extent exactly I have no idea. And I'm way too lazy and have other things to do than look it up.

I love it. The people that are complaining about how Wal Mart treats its employees are probably the same ones who go to Wal Mart to buy their .88 cent loaf of bread instead of buying it from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's for $4. If you have an issue with their practices simply do not shop there. I am far from a Wal Mart supporter and despise shopping at Wal Mart for multiple reasons. People chase the dollar, consumers and sellers alike. If you are going to complain about employer practices, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

That grandson of mine will be pushing carts full time starting next week. When he has been at Walmart for 3 months, he can go on their medical plan. He already has been offered the opportunity to open a 401K through Walmart.

Good to hear, as I said before Walmart is no shining beacon of employment, but there are far worse places to work. Let's not pretend that they are the only employer in the US hiring part time employees. They are just a nice big target for people to throw at.

I too get tired of the bash "big"corporations for abusing the its employees. It's mentality instilled into all of us by most teachers until you finally stop going to school/universities 10 or 15 years latet. Hollywood and most media ect. continue the indoctrination forever. Once you mature and think for yourself many people thankfully move to more to a self reliant positive view of capitalism and life is good.

Thank you! It just takes some longer than others to realize you can't help someone that doesn't want to help themselves...

Part-time workers are critical for most retail operations. It's been this way for a long time. I worked at 5 different Hy-Vee's in the late 80's/early 90's and I'd guess that 70% of the workforce were part time. Nearly all that part time help had no urge to work full time and if they did have the urge it wasn't to hard to move to a position like night stock where most are full time. Maybe things have changed since then but I doubt it.

Once Amazon takes over and only uses robots people will be longing for the days when at least they could get a job at Walmart.

There are only so many janitor and sewer cleaning jobs so Hoks need those Walmart jobs.

Agree that if you don't like Wally's practices, don't shop there. But, in many small communities there is no choice.
And, for those chasing the dollar, you would never go to Whole Foods.
