I don't think they would have gone the chop the leg off route if he isn't scripted to make it. But than again I was surprised to see Lily get killed off in the season finale of Hell on Wheels.

No kidding! They did a pretty big kill off in the finale. No way the Swede is dead, just no way.

So good. I'd like to know how the "body armor" zombies died though. Plot hole methinks unless they just starved to death.

34,000 views on a Walking Dead thread already?? Guess there's a lot of zombie watchers out there.
The thread is nearly a year old. It was started last year after season II started so it got a lot of hits after each episode.

Good opening episode. I was wondering how much time had passed and I know they mentioned something about making it through the winter, and also Rick's wife is much further along, so it's had to have been several months.

Surprised to see the prisoners. That will be interesting. I suppose they are still locked up and couldn't get out?

Those guys and the gas mask walkers were pretty cool, something normally seen only in video games. Mazarra talked about working that in during "Talking Dead" and was pretty non-specific about how the body armor walkers would have been there. I think they just liked the idea more than the rationale, but it's not hard to imagine that a rioting prison would have had many guards taken out while in body armor.

By far, my most prominent gripe was the fact that they had apparently been circling the general area - scavenging food and shelter, avoiding walker herds - for SIX months without ever seeing the prison. I know they needed to let us in on what happened, but the whole map scene really seemed very iffy.

It's what's tough about doing TV I guess, because you have to deal with Carl's aging, actors looking a little different.
It was a pull the band-aid moment that was necessary to get Season 3 going, but I guess I just cringed because it seemed so contrived and awkward.

Once past that, it was a very good episode I thought. Like someone else said, seemed like they were taking some unnecessarily distant gunshots when the "bring them to fence" strategy had obvious benefits. I liked the drama and tension created with Hershel's injury and what a great cliffhanger with the alive inmates. Looking forward to next episode.

Totally agree the body armor zombies was straight out of a video game. Agreed about the waste of ammo shooting the zombies in the yard. Also I loved how people were "snipering" with pistols, LOL.

The one thing i don't like, they seem like they might be setting something up between Carl and Beth. That just seems weird. He's like... 13 and She's 17 in the series i think.. but it seems weirder probably because she's actually much older (late 20s i believe... all i can find online is that she graduated college in 06) while he actually is 13.

As for the body armor zombies.. while the armor would've been bite-resistant, if the prisoners were rioting and had beaten the guards to death, they wouldve risen afterwards.

The whole thing between Daryl and the grey haired chick is weird as well.

Agree. Great season opener. Good action, good drama building within character structures. SWEET SHOW.

Just saw a commercial after the episode last night, sort of "previewing" the season. Greatest quote:

"In season 3, life in prison takes a whole new meaning"

The prisoner storyline is sounding a lot like LOST with the people who were there before the plane crash

"This is our island"
"This is our prison" or something like that was uttered in next weeks preview, unless I was sleeping.
