Watched Chris Colvin play

Does Colvin do a good job at rebounding the ball as a guard? It is important to be a decent rebounder when you are a guard like Petey is for us. I REALLY like to hear that he is explosive around the hoop that is something we need and another good shooting guard to add to the ones we have now, excellent. The future here is getting brighter!! Chins up!!

Yep. We scored a whole lot more points under Morgan, so I see little reason to trash his offensive sets.

Yeah, but Wayne incorporated the fly into the stands trying to block a 3-pointer zone defense which takes time to master.
More opportunities to score because we let the other team score so we could get the ball back.
I guess that is always tougher than the stand there and watch him shoot the 3 and pray he doesn't blow by you...
It's crazy to think just how different the Morgan teams were compared to McDermott's.
I think Colvin will help a lot next year. Hopefully he can be that "closer" we need, somebody who can get to the free throw line consistently, make good decisions with the ball, and finish.
I have a lot of faith in Buckley but I just don't seem him starting next year. He'll be valuable for us but I doubt he'll do anything better than Colvin or DG that will warrant a lot of playing time. That's just my prediction though, no idea how that'll turn out.

I haven't seen Colvin play yet, but I really hope he lives up to the hype, becuase I don't think I can stand another season with DG as our starting PG. And as for him playing the 2 guard...I'm not sure putting the team's worst shooter at the 2 spot is the best idea I've ever heard. My ideal line-up for next year would be Colvin, Lucca, Pomlee, Brackins & Hamilton with Buckley, DG and Eikmeier getting quality minutes off the bench. Throw Barnes in a year later and I think we have a real good team! Hope to see everyone at the game tomorrow and remember to wear Gold!
There is no way pomlee will start over gillstrap, we wont start 3 bigs. And there is no chance DG wont start.
Well, Final42b, I hope Gillstrap is good enough to come in and start at the 3 spot, that would give us a 3 man rotation in the post with Brackins, Hamilton & Pomlee. As for DG, I hope your wrong, because he's terrible. He doesn't play defense, can't shoot, doesn't attack the press...he does take the ball to the basket pretty well, but when he does he doesn't look to pass and only makes half his lay-ups! I don't mean to beat the kid down, but did anyone else see in the Missouri game where he had a 1-on-1 fast break and stopped in the middle of the lane and turned his back to the basket! That's something you see in 5th grade basketball!
Having seen Colvin play in HS and AAU, he may not really be ready to play the PG right away, as he's always been more of a combo guard and played off the ball in HS. This is really the first year in HS he's been playing the point, and even now he spends some time on the wing while Ahmad Starks(Oregon State commit) plays the point. For his previous years at Whitney Young AJ Rompza(UCF freshman) ran the team and the offense. Colvin played on the wing with Anthony Johnson(Purdue commit) and Marcus Jordan(MJ's son). He's just now beginning his transition to a point guard.
Not saying he can't become a starting PG at some point, but he's not really a true PG and hasn't been playing the position long enough to start at it right away. He'll get playing time, but it probably won't be at the point in the beginning.
No matter what you think DG WILL start next year. And also vanderbekan will play over pomlee. Pomlee is still a couple of years away before he will get big minutes, unless Craig leaves early.
You're right, what I think won't have an effect on who starts next year, because if what I thought mattered, DG wouldn't be starting this year! And Vanderbekan?...is it safe to say you don't value the defensive end as much as I do? Anyway, we can agree to disagree and both hope the team keeps improving this year.

Final4, I think you're correct, DG will probably be the starting point guard next year.
However, I am in agreement with StateFan. I couldn't believe how poor Garrett is at running the break. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there were too many 3 on 2s or 4 on 3 man advantages against MIZZOU and he or we never or rarely capitalized. It was tough to watch. He doesn't seem to know how to attack the bucket, yet keep his eyes open for teammates and we never see him pull up and hit a mid-range jumper which could really make the defense think even more. There's a boatload of decent-to-good shooters on this ISU team and if they had a Jamaal Tinsleyesque point guard setting them up (asking a lot, I know) a la Mike Nurse, Kantrail Horton and Sullivan, we would be in better shape.
Also, I had thought that maybe McDermott has been holding him back a little and trying to control things too much from the bench, but after the MIZZOU game he repeatedly said that ISU needs to attack the press. It's fundamental press-break strategy - make your opponent pay for pressing you the full length of the court and take what the defense gives you.
If DG is the starting point guard next year, there's only so far this team can go. There will be a ceiling.
P.S. based on stats and hype alone I think Gilstrap will actually be the best addition to the team next year, but hopefully Colvin will be solid too.

Dont get me wrong, id much rather have pomlee, i'm just saying what i think gmac will do.
