I believe our team can beat Iowa team ! Iowa is a mediocre team in a bad conference (take out OSU and Michigan State).

First off, quit believing that ESPN/Hoopgurlz is the gospel for rankings. There are other services, including the Blue Star Girls Report and MaxPreps.

Blue Star Basketball

It's interesting that ESPN has Virginia Johnson at 62, and Blue Star has her 186. Dixon has a Hoopgurlz score of 40, the lowest score to be rated. Go take a look at their roster, they have one TRUE post player. They have zero depth at post since Gabby Machado transferred and JoAnne Hamblin didn't get a 6th year. It's Morgan Johnson at post, the others Kelsey Krei, Jade Rogers, Kelsey Cermak do not play under the basket.

Until Bluder wins the Big Ten regular season, she will always be second fiddle to tOSU. Honestly, the Big 10 recruits a different kind of player than the Big 12. The Big 10 is more of a slow down type of league, and there are players who like to play slow down basketball. The Big 12 is more up tempo, and not every player wants to play up tempo, therefore they choose to play slow down. If you look at this girls final choices, Vandy is very disciplined on offense and defense, and Marquette is the same way from playing in the Big East.

Thanks Three4Cy,
I have followed WBB just enough I would think to know what services are driven by and who recruits what type of player.
Big 10/11/12 has some schools bringing in different types of gals now and not just the plowhorses they were known for.
Just like A&M and OSU in the 12 that use to be a D only take the air out type teams.
Changing with the times comes along with keeping up with the Jones and what you can get.
I think Bluder is changing some because of what BF has evolved from also. He use to have the 3 shooting low scoring until he got gals that will be diff.

Although I wish ISU had landed a few of the top girls in this class, we cannot forget that we did get Anna Prins, and Christofferson, both highly rated national level talent. And we do have a top 100 guard in the 2011 class.

I think we are still stinging from Taylor's choice, but we have to be focused on who we do have and who wants to be here. There are under the radar players who blow up, and there are top 10 level recruits who never pan out.

And I agree with MRed, please let's get this season started.

Who knows, maybe we have one or two surprises left for 2011 class recruiting.

I saw Fennely this morning in the airport. He was sitting at the gate right next to mine. Dressed head to toe in his ISU sweatsuit. I didnt catch where his flight was heading, but I bet he is on the recruiting trail.

This is not in reply to any specific post, but I would point out that recruiting top players and then keeping them and/or molding them into a successful team are not guaranteed. A couple of years ago Rutgers had several high school All-American recruits, but not all stayed, and so far at least, the team has not done well compared to the Rutgers teams of several years back.

Frankly Bluder has "outrecruited" Bill a lot in the past, if you go by the Hoopgurlz and Blue Star rankings. Its what they do after they get there that counts. That's where Bill continues to shine at getting the most out of his players.

Sorry, I've never heard of Bluder getting recruits like she is now. In fact, BF has pointed out with pride that he has always beaten out the Hawks for the state's best players.
Not saying that it guarantees success, but players like Johnson and Logic likely will elevate them to a level they've not seen before under Bluder.
What's frustrating is that BF has always lamented, and justly so, that ISU's location in a low-population, cold-weather state prevents him from attracting 4 and 5-star talent. Now we have some of those players close by (Johnson, Stokes, Logic) and even one in our own backyard (Greenfield) and we're still coming up dry.
Worse yet, a program with maybe 1/5 of our fan suppport, Iowa, is signing 'em instead.

There are lots of teams that have had and will have more talent that ISU. The team that made the elite 8 2 years ago was not that talented. What they were? (1) exceptionally coached (2) they bought into what BF taught and how he did it (3) they played as a team

I'm sure there are more reasons, but really...that was not even remotely the most talented team that ISU has ever had...perhaps 4th or 5th on the list.

Bluder has a history of signing very highly regarded recruits at, including Solverson, Kasperek, Skouby, Kristi Smith, etc. The class with Solverson was probably ranked higher than any class BF has signed at ISU.

I do agree that recruiting has been disappointing for the 2011 class so far but if he can finish with Cady and the Roberson gal from TX, it will be still be a very good class.

Jasalyn Lee, 5-9, F, Brown Deer WI is an apparent target for 2012. Here's a site that connects her with us (I think): Wisconsin High School Sports | Wisconsin Sports Networks | WisSports.net

That team was also STACKED with upperclassmen. 5 seniors, 5 juniors, plus Bolte as a Soph. That team was definitely talented.

Ouch, another miss. Oh well, sounds like she didn't want to play system offense. Have to say, of the schools she had offers from, Oregon was probably the weakest program.

No kidding, what an odd list - she was all over the board. Of the schools she has listed, the Oregon would be her first choice if she wanted to play "run and gun" since the rest aren't really known for that - SDSU might be the next closest to that style.

Let's face it. A lot of those so called higher talented girls would not fit into our program. If you look at most of the recruits that are brought in they are above average talent but most importantly 90% of them are all academics, i.e, honor students, close to being tops in their classes and community leaders. BF eliminates a lot of eligibilty issues and behavior problems with the girls he recruits. Keep it up BF! Go Clones!
