We have no point guard play

Guard play is the biggest weakness for this team, but its not the point its at the 2 position. DG is a good B12 point guard, but he has never had a good 2 to help handle the ball, get open, and play defense. Both guards need to work together to have a strong back court. I remember when Jacy Hollaway was running the point and Dedric played the 2. Dedric took a ton of pressure off of Jacy and the team was successful and I don't believe that Jacy is any better than DG. We need a 2 guard to help our point.

I totally agree with this statement. Yes, there is plenty of season left, we only have 6 losses, but I have seen this for 4 years now, and it has not shown any signs of getting better. I am pretty sure that this season will end in bitter disappointment....that is, not even coming close to the NCAA Tourney...heck, I would be amazed if we made the NIT........and I would be fine with GMac being let go immediatly following this season. We will be going nowhere FAST with him as our coach.
I will gladly eat crow too if this team could make an unbelievable run and get us in....but I just don't see it happening, nor will we come close to being a "bubble team." ISU fans deserve better than this. Why? Because we are incredibly loyal and remain the 3rd best in attendance according to B12 stats......with a sub-par program the past 4 years. Plus, we know what an atmosphere that Hilton can bring....and we have had coaches reach elite success while at ISU. That is why we as alums/fans deserve better than what we have right now in GMac. Send him packing once he fails again this year please.

I agree big boy I whole heartedly agree....Since the arrival of McDud the PG play has been atrocious with no improvement in sight.
I hate to think about next year with brackins-gilstrap and who knows whom else leaves the program under mcdud!!!
Well I guess as long as fans keep filling hilton no matter how bad the team plays that Jamie & mcdud will keep giving the fans more of the same..

He has an excellent assist rate at #2. What do they use to come up with that? His TO rate is 67th in the conf. Again, what is the formula used? I would say you need to look at combination of different aspects to conclude who is best PG in the league. I do not think he is the 2nd best in the league, but I do think he is the best we have, at this point.
DG's assist to turnover ratio, in conference play, is 15th in the conference. He built his stats up in the non-conference games. Since conference has started, he has not performed well.
I think you can call him one of the top point guards in the conference when his conference stats support that.

He is in 15th position in the conference, for conference games. Assist/turnover is the stat. Don't understand your question.
After watching DG in the Wisc. state tournement, and then 2 years at iowa State, my conclusion in Nov. was we will not see a successful basketball team until someone beats out DG at PG. I stand by that conclusion.One of, but probably the biggest flaw of our team.
Buckley had some bright spots but is not good in extended minutes.
Don't get me started on DG.
CC has all the potential in the world. I have high hope for him (hopefully he sticks around)
I think most of us can agree that the point guard position is the most important part of the team, right? It's like trying to win with a bad QB. I try not to be negative but this position was tough to watch tonight and for the last couple games.

That is all positions. Looking at the list, most are guards. I see at least 4 pg's ahead of DG. Not sure on some of the others. Seems like KU's whole team is on the list.
Would be nice if they did things by position but that would be hard too. Too many players play multiple positions for one thing.
We have great PG play if you need one to get wide open only to leave a floater from 4' short, or dribble off his foot.
I see 3 main problems. I 'think' they're all fixable.
-Our free throw % is 62.9. That's 309/334 teams in D1. (how many of those are front ends of one and one's)
-Consistent rebounding effort
-making shots inside 5 ft with or without contact (DG and others)

Most of the time when a point guard is being effective he doesn't get credit for
the assist. Usually the pass that causes the D to
breakdown is the play but the next pass
gets the assist. Our team holds the ball to long and DG rarely makes a pass that causes the D to react.
