Interestingly, on the pregame show, Brunsie commented that part of the reason Jake Campos decommitted from Missouri was that he read Tiger message boards last Fall, and wasn't sure that Pinkel would still be around.
And Nigel Tribune--who looks like a tremendous corner prospect--actually decommitted from us for a while, switching to IU, because of comments on message boards.

Want to know the best way to impress recruits? Win football games. Then you have a fan base who isn't ******** about weather or not the coach should be around.
If a recruit reads a message board to gauge the fan base and a program than god help us all. Message boards make up about 1/1,000th of the fans of said teams. We are a small small portion of Cyclone nation. Get a ******* grip.
