I was hired by a large employer here in Des Moines a few months ago and I was looking through some of their benefits outside the typical medical/401k match/etc and I stumbled up something that perked my interest.

They will match up to $10,000 in charitable donations to any nonprofit organization of your choosing. They will also turn any recorded volunteer hours into cash donations. They organization just has to be located in Iowa and be tax exempt under 501(c)(3).

As far as I know, the We Will Collective should fit that bill. I wonder how many other large employers in Iowa have something similar to this? Might as well leverage everything we can.

Thanks for bringing this up! Yes, we should definitely qualify and if anyone at their respective companies needs additional documentation please shoot me a PM or reach out to me at [email protected]. This can be a huge help because trust me every bit helps as we get this off the ground and try to keep pace with the rest of the world. Thanks!

Not sure NIL is what any company has in mind when they offer a charitable contribution match, but what do I know.

I’m sure the publicity and tax write-off is what they have in mind, and the rules specify only an Iowa 501(c)(3) to protect themselves, so they can kindly cut the check and smile while doing so.

Go Cyclones!

My employer uses a third-party portal (and isn't there one of those for just about everything nowadays?) for matching donations. The third-party has to have you on their list for this to work.

So... I nominated WWC to be added to the list --

Hopefully this helps anybody else who has to do this through Benevity/if any of you are in a similar situation with an employer match, you should be able to nominate WWC to be added to the list. All they needed in terms of documentation was the IRS determination, which @brentblum provided to me.
