I don't keep up with the landscape really of College WBB. Assuming they don't win the title this year, would they be the favorites to win it all the next 2 years if she came back for both?
IMHO, this is Iowa's best chance. They lose Czinano, and she will be replaced by a sophomore who is a finesse player, whereas Czinano is stronger. Also, they lost McKenna Warnock, who is a solid 4 player. The rest of their bench doesn't get a ton of playing time.

I expect UCONN to be in the conversation next year since they get Paige back. Stanford continues to reload, LSU is loaded, and of course, South Carolina keeps reloading. I was also impressed with Ohio State; they return a solid core.

That's the thing, she will stick around because WNBA players are capped at 250K area for 1-4 in the draft. The players that may want to go to Iowa now have to determine if they are willing to not play as much that extra year. It's not just her or Iowa, I'm tired of it even with ISU athletes. I don't hold it against the player because it is just an opportunity that is presented to them, I just am tired of the whole extra year thing. I'm ready for all these extra year people to give way to the kids who don't get the extra year automatically.

Agree about the extra year. Tired of it too. It's screwing over a lot of other athletes.

Clark would be wise to leave after next year. Maybe even after this year. She will make way more in endorsements as a pro then she will in Iowa. She can also make killing playing overseas. Then there are the overseas endorsements.

I was under the impression Warnock could use a covid year still?

Pretty certain Czinano is stating she is back next year. Has one year left can take I believe. Warnok has stated she is done and starting dental school.

Agree. A lot of people don't follow WBB. Clark? Yes, but those are bandwagons. If they lose watch the WBB ratings tank.
It was funny Iowa vs Louisville had higher ratings than any NBA game this season. When you see a woman shooting from that far out and consistently making them that gets lots of attention. Most men left open aren't making those at as of high of a % as she does.

This - I don't understand why this year's juniors (Emily Ryan) get an extra year. They haven't missed out on any NCAA tournaments, so why the extra year? I understand they played with no crowds and fewer games in their freshman year, but is that a reason for an extra year?

It comes down to the coaches telling these players it's time to move on, because we need to keep building the program.

This is a great comment on why coaches need to move players out. Ohio State volleyball had 5 seniors that could play another year with the COVID rule.

Oldenberg met with each of the seniors after the NCAA tournament, and there were tears in every meeting as she explained the situation, and why she felt this was the way things had play out.

"If I make a choice to keep all five on my roster, on scholarship, then I'm telling incoming freshman or players in my program, 'Hey, sorry. Not yours anymore,' " she said. "You can do that, and I had a choice to do that, and I chose not to do that – not because I don't want these five. I want them forever.

Yeah, the selfish take is what people think that only see the highlights of her shooting logo 3's. She is probably the most gifted passer I can remember seeing in the women's game. Granted I haven't really ever been tuned into the women's game
She should be on the men's team and just play outside.

Higher ratings than any NBA game on ESPN in the year 2023. Still very impressive.

People loved Diana Taurasi at UConn, but no one really followed her to the NBA. I feel the same thing will happen to Clark.

She could, but she has stated she wants to start dental school. Not sure how many years that takes, but more than 1 and she wants to get on with it.

This is Czinano's 5th year.

Starting center, and the Big Ten’s ninth all-time leading scorer, Monika Czinano came back for her fifth season with the Hawkeyes this year.

Martin and Marshall are both coming back. Warnock is going to dental school and not coming back.

coupled with Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder’s subsequent confirmation that McKenna Warnock will conclude her career after this season to pursue dental school, means that Iowa will operate at the 15-scholarship limit next season.

Third, it’s Senior Day, and Czinano and Warnock will be honored afterward.

Why would she make more in endorsements in a less popular league where she likely won't be as dominant? And again she literally is not eligible to turn pro after this year

Czinano is done after this year this was her COVID year, she's a year ahead of the other three non-clark starters. Marshall and Martin are taking their fifth year next year. Warnock could but isn't in favor of dental school as you said

She can't go after this year. She's not draft eligible until after next year and the college game gets multiple times more views than the WNBA does. She's going to be at Iowa for two more years.

Anything that brings more eyes to the women's game is great for the sport. Women's basketball can make itself the 3rd revenue sport if it does things right and keeping great players in college is doing things right. I don't care if she's at Iowa, if she can help make women's basketball profitable on a national level it's more money to support other programs and fund scholarships in other sports.

The other women's games have done well this year too. Interest in the sport generally is way up. The Iowa/SC game will be the highest rated one probably but I'd expect the title game and the other FF game to do solid numbers

Anyway this doesn't have anything to do with them talking about the team in the run up to the game, which is certainly a much bigger story than a ******* AAA baseball team

Got it. The freshman that comes in when Czinano sits needs to get tougher for sure, but she is young. In my opinion she is more athletic than Czinano, but just young and doesn't guard and block out as well.
