What does everyone think of Dino Gaudio?

I think a bigger name not a lot of people are talking about is Dino Gaudio. I was looking closer at him and he previously was the head coach (with little success) at Army (36-72 and Loyola (MD) (32-52). Obviously those are not very impressive stints. But when he took over at Wake Forest he had a lot of success. I don't know how involved he is in the recruiting part of it but they continually sign pretty solid classes. I would imagine he is at least a decent recruiter, since he was the top assistant under Skip Prosser. Now clearly, it is much easier to recruit to Wake, who has a long history of success in the ACC and with players making it in the NBA.

I was just wondering what other people know about him, and if they think he would seriously consider ISU.

Way up there
Seems like he recruited pretty well, but Wake under achieved each year he was the head coach, especially during conference play. I think he's a solid coach but not someone that would generate the excitement that this program needs.

The fact that he was fired after having a decent record, including getting Wake to #1 at one point, and recruiting very well, and then was replaced by Bzdelik who hadn't taken Colorado anywhere nor recruited all that well, raises a big red flag for me. there must be more to his firing.

I was excited by him as well, but from what people have said he is a very good recruiter, but can't coach 'em.

The guy was in probably the no. 1 recruiting hotbed in all of college basketball and has underwhelming results to show for it. It'll be a hell of a lot harder to recruit to Ames - I just don't like the prospects.

I don't like him. Underachieved at Wake, wouldn't be familiar with our recruiting challenges, was replaced by junk.

I think he was fired.

I know he was fired, but so was Billy Gillespie and it seems like a lot of people like him. All I'm saying is I can see some similarities between Wake and Iowa State. We have Texas and Kansas, they have UNC and Duke. If he could get some recruits I could get on board. But maybe we should look elsewhere (if we are even looking at all) if, as you guys say, he can't coach.

I also don't get the argument that because he was replaced by Bzdelik that that means Gaudio is terrible. A replacement coach does not tell anything about the former coach in my opinion.

I personally would love Gaudio. Good recruiter, and knows how to coach at a BCS program.

I would not be mad at all with this hire. But it probably wont happen because he will be asking for wayyy to much money. Hell of a recruiter tho.

He might do okay, but I don't think he'd be the right guy for the long haul.

That is a another thing that I'm not quite on board with. Sure it would be great to get a guy who thinks of ISU as a "destination" job. But what is wrong with someone who comes in, has success, and leaves for a better job. Lets face it, for 95% of people we are a stepping stone job. Embrace it. I'll take any success in bball that we can get. I would be perfectly happy if anyone would come in and get us to the NCAA tournament for a few years and then leave for a job at some better school like Texas, Mich St., or wherever.
