Nope. Mr. McLemore and Mr. Smart are battling for that title. Niang should finish 3rd, but Austin will probably get more votes than him just based on name recognition.

Yep, Smart or McLemore will get it just on name recognition, alone.

The thing I love about Niang is that he has schooled the top 2 big men in the league. Withey didn't know what to do with him in the first game and he owned Austin in both games. Not bad for a 6'7" freshman with no hops.

Everyone says he will be here for 3 more years. I'm not so sure about that. If he makes growth like most other players do under Fred he could be out making the big bucks sooner. All it takes is one crazy NCAA tourny run and the kid could be gone riding the hype train to the land of big bucks.

That play where he wasn't expecting the pass, and converted it was crazy.

With that sort of concentration, Georges would be a menace on the gridiron. Can you imagine him lining up at TE or in the slot (+20 lbs of muscle)? He'd be like that big Army wideout a couple years ago, but good.

Make it happen, CPR!

Maybe he'll go the Stevie Johnson route, and play for CPR.

Me likey.

They will both be top 5 picks in the draft, not a bad year to finish 3rd for this award.

I really like the way Niang carries himself. After the Tech disaster when a few senior players were on twitter fighting with fans Niang took to twitter apologizing (although he didn't need to apologize for anything) and vowing that the pitiful effort that night wasn't going to happen again. Then on his 4th foul last night he pulled the guys on the floor together and was leading the talk in the huddle. IIRC it was during the K-State game he threw down a dunk and blew a kiss to the student section.

This kid is a leader and he knows exactly how to get the crowd going. If he is already this good just imagine his role as a team leader in the years to come...

Actually, they will get it because they deserve it. Both will be first team All-BigXII and are in the running for POY honors. There isn't really any valid argument that Niang deserves Freshman of the Year over them.

It's a possibility if/when he gets his body into Big12 shape. If it does happen it just means that CFH will have an even better shot with great young talent to replace him.

His game reminds me of Larry Bird's -- crafty around the basket, can score from anywhere, smart, gets it done without all-world athleticism. I think Bird played in the NBA for a while, too.

Heres a valid yet optimistic argument: He beats both these players in Hilton!

Exactly what I was going to post. Not a guy that jumps out of the gym, but does everything good and at the end of the night he kills you with overall game.

I literally LOL at some of the buckets he gets. Like tonight.....
We ( forget who) throw a pass at him as he's running away from the area and he has no clue that the ball is heading for him. Then at the last second he turns, catches it (amazing catch) and puts in a contested layup against a defender that has 4 inches on him.

I think it was McGee. I laughed too because you could hear him yell "GEORGES!" and then Niang turns around and somehow catches the ball.

I'm sure you're right that Niang won't get FOY honors over Smart or McLemore, those guys can light it up some nights and get a lot of pub. But I really wouldn't trade Niang for either one of those guys, he's just smarter and more dependable. I have a feeling he'll prove it when they come to Hilton.

That sums it up. He can post up bigger players because he has great footwork and excellent post moves, he can shoot from the perimeter, his ball handling will only improve over time, and he always seems to be in the right place at the right time to grab rebounds or loose balls. The real x-factor for him is his efficiency. He can get you 15-20 points, a half dozen rebounds, and he doesn't need 17 or 18 shots to get it for you nor does he need an excessive amount of playing time either.

Efficiency is awesome. It's always a positive when someone can just get you an easy basket. It infuriates me late in games when teams try to hard to make a big play when you just need to try and get the easiest basket possible.

Will you be attending anymore home games this season?

Unfortunately, I can't. I need to save my vacation time for the Big 12 tourney, March Madness and Christmas in Hawaii!!! My brother will be arriving in Ames on Friday to attend the games on Saturday and Monday with his nephews and brother-in-law so at least there will be 4 people there cheering for Georges :jimlad:
