If you haven't been to Allen Field House don't comment about it. You sound like an idiot. You wouldn't like someone calling Hilton a dump that had never visited. I've been to Allen and it has a lot of character. Give credit where credit is due.

I have to agree with this one. I've been to Allen Field House twice (saw ISU win there in 2001 and 2005!). Hilton will always be at the top of my list, and I take no joy in saying this, but KU's arena does have a lot of character, and their fans are intense. It made it all the more fun to go in there and see them walk out disappointed.

Okay I just went over to phog.net, I'm taking back anything nice I ever said about KU. Phog Allen is a joke, Lawrence rots a$$, and Bill Self couldn't coach is way out of a wet paper bag. So much for the high road.

What a game in '05! I was there also. Snuck in to the student section with a KU study abroad friend. She made me wear a KU shirt to get in and then my friend and I promptly took them off. Allen Fieldhouse has great tradition and anyone who has a chance to see a game there should, whether or not ISU is there!

It was great! ISU led much of the game, and could have put it away with free throws at the end, but choked and let it go to OT. I was surrounded by KU fans, and when it went to OT the taunting began. In particular I remember this 50-ish woman sitting right in front of me who had been mostly quiet the whole game, but once it went to OT she turned around and pointed a finger at me and laughed right in my face. I'm sure she figured there was no way ISU would win in OT. Boy when we did I could have returned the favor, and in fact she turned around almost expecting me to say something. I just left her alone and pumped my fist in the air yelling "Way to go Iowa State!!". In hindsight it's something I'm glad I did rather than rub it in. Fun times.

Had many of the same opportunities but chose to keep my friends at KU. Was a great experience that weekend for me... a fun college town. In fact I ran into Stevie Hicks at a bar that night and he bought me a shot. Can't complain about that.

Moral of the story...it is a pretty dumb idea to get on another school about booing from their fans bc all it really means is that they are into the game and there is no way if you have a good crowd you won't end up looking like a hypocrite in the future.

I haven't been since they renovated the place.....so I can't comment any further.

If they renovated it since 2000, I can certainly see why. In 2000, I thought I was lost and mistaken walked into Lawrence Junior High until I got inside and saw the "Beware of the Phog" sign hanging up in the rafters with the fruit bats and black widow spiders. :biggrin9gp:
