If it takes two people to write that, you know the DM sports section is worthless. The only good parts are JP's comments.
My problem is with quotes like this:
"Ferentz and Chizik are the only head coaches in Iowa with guaranteed contracts exceeding $1 million, yet Alabama could be offering Saban four times that much."
Technically a true statement but alludes to a point that point Chizik and Ferentz are making around 1 million. They do mention Ferentz's salary increase to 2.7 mil in the article in passing but again miss the point so they don't **** off their sqawk friends. Ferentz is currently the 2nd highest paid coach in the country. How could they not write about how the increase to Ferentz relates to "when will the spending stop"? Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy, journalism.

I am sick of this "They make to much money". No they don't. The better of a coach they are the better the program the more money it brings in to the school. It's very Very simple economics.

business is business.....if you can afford it, why not......i love how they say if it gets out of hand too much, congress is going to get involved with taxing and such.....WHY?!?!?! why do schools and coaches need to be penalized for an increase in money in the business

Funny I don't see the Register writing articles on how much money entertainers (actors, musicans, comedians, etc.) make off us little people, but by God if a coach or athelete are well compensated for their God given talents, the world is coming to an end.
