I got remarried five years ago. My wife has three sons who went to or are currently going to Arizona State. It was never an issue until ASU joined the conference. The Big 12 Championship game was tough, but we all went to the ASU basketball game, so we're even. (Kind of, considering the football game had more on the line.) I also have two sons of my own with degrees from ASU, but I brainwashed them to be Cyclone fans from birth so they are split on their allegiances. I think they root for whichever team is better. (ASU for football and baseball, ISU for basketball.) I root for ASU when they aren't playing ISU, and I'm a big ASU baseball fan since ISU doesn't have a team and my son played on ASU.

JM Old Man: A lot of your little buddy’s sure are big hawk fans.

JM: Dad, what would happen if I cheered for Iowa?

JM Old Man: Do you want Christmas presents?

JM: Understood.

I graduated from ISU and have an MBA from the University of Richmond. My wife did undergrad at William & Mary and went to Iowa for law school - she's from Richmond but got a great scholarship to go to the midwest). If you're not aware, Richmond and W&M have a decent rivalry in football and play each other for their last game every year. So, we have 2 "house-divided".

We met on match.com when I moved to Richmond to be a Navy recruiter and she had just moved back after law school. She messaged me because she thought the Iowa "connection" in our bios was fun. My first thought was "Oh no, not a Hawkeye!" But I gave her a chance...

Fortunately, she's not a big sports fan, so she leaves me to my fandom and I've gotten all 3 kids to be ISU fans. I think it'd be much worse if we lived in Iowa instead of Virginia. We sort of follow our local teams, but it's more of a fair-weather fan situation.

The worst part was when her law school friends started sending Hawkeye onesies and other crap when we had babies. I shut that down REAL quick.

I showed my wife this post last night, and she laughed. Then she said, "You know, I used to put the kids in those onesies when you weren't here so I could take pictures and send them to my friends." So, now I'm looking into local divorce lawyers...

Joking, of course. She was cool with a boys trip to Morgantown a few weeks ago, where we got the picture below with my middle child. Unfortunately, I cut off the fact that he's wearing an official Momcilovic jersey from the NIL store - his requested birthday present last summer.

This reminds me of my brother getting sent to his room for cheering for KU (he was an Iowa fan and trying to piss me off) during the final Big 8 championship.

He walked it off thankfully.
