Okie Light?

I just can't refer to them that way in basketball. Not even in football any more.

I wonder if they are are referred to as Little Brother, like us.

I'll stay away from the predictions here but it troubles me to see people predicting losses to KU and OSU. Are they good teams? Certainly... but these teams are not unbeatable. If the Clones are on their game they can beat anyone. Anybody watch Kansas this weekend choke against Villanova and nearly choke against UTEP? Anybody see OSU nearly **** a game away against Butler and lose to Memphis? These teams are not invincible. ISU lost in OT twice, lost on a shot at the buzzer, and won once in 4 regular season games against these teams last season.

IMO... ISU has a better all around team this season with similar depth to last year. The difference is the guys Hoiberg is bringing in off the bench this season have more talent with the only exception being Tyrus McGee from last season. Hogue is a huge addition along with Morris and Long. Having another capable threat down low in Hogue has been a huge difference for this team.

Personally... I think Kansas isn't as dangerous of a team this season as they were last season. Last season they were dynamic as a team with Withey the 7 foot shot destroyer, Young the garbage man under the basket, McLemore a sharp shooter, Johnson a sharp shooter, and Releford who was their defensive specialist. They just aren't the same team with the losses they suffered due to graduation and McLemore bailing for the NBA.

Okie Light? Sure they brought back all of their key players but this was a team that ISU split with last season and really should have beat twice (remember... I think ISU is a better overall team this year). Kane might be one of the few PG's in the country that can matchup up favorably with Smart in terms of size and skill. I'll take Niang, Ejim, and Hogue over the Cowboys post players without thinking twice about it.

I think we'll have a good chance at home, but KU gets home cooking against everyone and Gallagher-Iba has been a house of nightmares for us even when their teams weren't nearly this talented.

I'm going to regret saying this, but I think there is a loss to come against UNI @ Des Moines on Saturday. Those tall lanky white boys just seem to have our number, and some on ISU's roster will be looking more ahead to the Iowa game this year than in years past. I could see UNI kicking us while we're not looking. Aside from that though, maybe 1 loss in the holiday tournament, but that should be all for non-con losses.

We aren't going to lose to UNI, they aren't that good and we are way too athletic and strong for them.

If we go undefeated in the non-conference, I'll say 25-7 going into the NCAA tourney.

If we somehow manage to go undefeated in non-conference play (I think we have 2 losses in there somewhere) then I think we go 26-6

Lose @KU, @OSU, @Baylor, OSU at home, then a few random ones we shouldnt lose like @Texas or @Oklahoma/WVU, take your pick...

Should sweep: K-State/TCU/Tech/WVU/Texas
Split: Oklahoma/KU/OSU/Baylor

Finish tied for 2nd with OSU

I was just looking through this old thread and with all of the losses predicted to Michigan and BYU ad it got me wondering what everyone thought now.

Referencing the preseason link, I said 19-11 & 11-7, 4th big 12. That assumed losses to Mich and BYU plus UNI, which was 'Fred slow start' factor. I still say Texas and WVa won't be pushover on road, KSU and BU sweep-possible, KU and OSU more flawed than I thought but will still be hard to split both.

Now that we've seen unproven newcomers in action, following Auburn game, still with only one game away from Hilton: 22-8, 12-6. That's my most-cautious outlook.

30-0 regular season
3-0 conference tournament
6-0 March Madness

So, six down, 33 to go?

Now that (some of) the Kool-Aid may have worn off, I'll say 25-5 regular season, 2-1 conference tournament, and 2-1 in March. Finish 29-7 and ranked #11.
