What will NCAA do to Baylor?

The bold addition is why slaps on the wrist for most every violation will continue to occur. (Not exclusive to Baylor)

The schools that were knocked out by Baylor should be up in arms about this. Who is to say that one of those teams wouldn't have made it to the title game if Baylor wasn't there?

If even one game is vacated, the NCAA may be in trouble. For that reason I doubt too much that anything will be vacated despite recruiting violations. Baylor is going to get a slap on the wrist.

Cheating involving the equestrian program at Baylor? Well, it's like I've always said.....you can lead a horse to water, but you can't text him repeatedly and beg him to sign a National LOI with Baylor. Not without bending the rules a little anyway.

And for all of those saying that "texting is no big deal"? WAY back in the day, I remember sitting in the den on Kehlenbeck House reading the Des Moines Register article outlining all the violations committed by Jim Criner, and also a short list of violations committed by Johnny Orr. One of Orr's violations? Buying a recruit a meal at Long John Silvers in Ames.

Long John Silvers. Imagine if we'd gotten the kid extra hush puppies? We'd still be digging out of the hole getting the death penalty would have left us in.

Not to stray too far from the specific case here, but are NCAA rules adaptable to advancing technology?

It's impossible to dismiss the volume of improper calls & text, or claims of being "unaware." Is this an example of the lag between long-established rules and ease of contact makes it more possible to exploit that gap to a school's advantage, or is the spirit of established rules simply lost in the details?

I imagine current rules have evolved, but are still based on the days when there were essentially two ways to interact: in-person and by telephone (oh, and maybe fax  I'm sure that was exploited quite often :pcute:).

Then came e-mail, texting, mobility ... what about Twitter or social networking like Facebook? Somebody will get nailed there eventually. Who knows what else is coming along.

Having spent a little time around coaches who are doing recruiting, it seems that there are lots of ways around the rules. So the rules are sort of a joke. Mulkey and Drew seem like the sort of coaches who might rather just break the rules than play around them. Stupid moves.

Sad....probably Mulkey would have got Briner anyway. Now, her special season will be tainted. yes, they still won it fair and square but that was unnecessary.

Good grief, we don't need "low blows" like that about the man-woman. Come on now.

The rewards of cheating definitely outweigh the punishments

Wow maybe we should start cheating.

No kidding. The ncaa is a joke. Doesnt have the tools to catch much to begin with, and when they do they go so light it doesnt serve as any kind of deterrent.

Any ISU recruits need some extra cash? My tax return should be coming back soon and I'm looking for something to do with it. If we lose a scholarship, who cares? We have 2 sitting this year anyway (until Lockett and Nerlens come aboard). Say, how much do you think I need to give Nerlens to sign with ISU? I doubt 3 figures is enough to sway his decision.

:jimlad: (<-- As is it was necessary)
