NIU is a good team, and a tough challenge for a young team not at home. I did not see any of the game, but looking at the stats, Iowa is still doing the things that make them tough for anyone: success running the ball, good defense, and few mistakes. Plus they will be much better next week with a game of experience for the young players and new coaches and JVB at home.

Iowa will lose. That is all I care about. It's funny how Hawkeye fans are making excuses about their performance today. Even heard "yeah, well Northern Illinois's coach use to be Wisconsin's defensive coordinator. They are alot better then expected".

Noobs.

Anyone have an estimation of what percentage of the fans were Iowa vs. NIU? I know it wasn't a home game for Iowa, but it wasn't a home game for NIU either, although they were close to home.

You are correct. They were decently good. But Iowa's pass game looked poopy. They moved the ball between the 20's and then did nothing. I believe Vandy had an average of 4 yards per attempt. Or something ridiculous. It wasn't good.

Could be, but that was likely the bottom. Almost every team is better at home, better in Week 2, and faster when not playing on the "grass" of Solider Field. JVB is a totally different player at home. The defense and run game was good, if the offense improves like it should, Iowa should win 9 games with this schedule. FWIW, I think ISU would win 10 games with Iowa's schedule.

I wish I had this confidence for Iowa. I saw so many negatives today that I just don't see how we fix the majority of them before next week's game. The only bright sides for Iowa are that the game will be at home for them, and ISU didn't look overly impressive today. Obviously, Iowa looked extremely unimpressive so I really don't know what to think. I certainly don't have the confidence for the ISU game that I had prior to today. Vandenberg looked absolutely terrible, and there was no creativity on offense whatsoever. We barely attempted any passes beyond 5 yards, and the line couldn't pass block worth a crap. On the bright side the defense looked solid with the exception of stopping the QB draw. Overall I gave Iowa a D today, and it will take a lot more than that to beat ISU.

Was the weather in Chicago a big factor in the game? It looked like on the radar this morning they were going to get some nasty weather there.

When you think a team is better than it really is, it is natural to overreact imo.
Going into the season I believed ISU to be a slightly better team than Iowa, but Iowa being at home probably would win the match-up, and with an incredibly weak schedule, win more games. Nothing from this weekend has changed that.

Iowa has some problems though. Namely speed and athleticism, and not just at one or two spots. Talent has been going downhill over there for a couple years now, and they are just slower than molasses all over the field now. No running back either. Not saying they can't win, I think it is a toss up at home and it is a rivalry game so it will be close and come down to turnovers as always. But normally Iowa comes out the first game, plays like crap and has a lot of fixable problems. This year they got a lot of problems that can't be fixed. This just is not one of Iowa's better teams.

If ISU holds onto the ball and doesn't beat themselves, should be fine.

Iowa is a young team with alot of inexperience. With that being said, they had plenty of chances to put NIU away, and it seemed they were a little lost in their offense. Iowa's Defense wasn't overly impressive either. I wonder how they will be able to handle ISU's offensive tempo. I also wonder how they will be able to handle SJ, it seems he has a different gear this year. I think if we force Vandenberg to move around, we win...so its up to the Defensive line.
