I know there is a contingent that wants Rhoads gone and I there's also a contingent that will defend him no matter what. But I think most of us are in the middle, unhappy with the last two seasons (and may or may not have wanted to see Rhoads fired after last season but accepting that he wasn't so we have what we have) but waiting to either melt down or start the hype train until after the UNI game on Saturday. This is how I'll feel based on various outcomes:

Loss, regardless of score:
Fire Rhoads prior to the postgame press conference, announce interim head coach for the rest of the season.

1-6 point win:
Rhoads is a dead man walking and the season is gonna be 1-11 or 2-10 bad.

7-13 point win:
Maybe things aren't so bad after all. We aren't that great of a football team but we can probably eke out 4 wins and deal with an offseason coaching search. Another week of "wait and see"

14+ point win:

What's everybody else thinking?

loss: fire rhoads
win 7 or fewer:fire rhoads after what will be a long season.
win 7+: fire rhoads when he doesn't make a bowl game.

Pretty simple...

Win: Nice job Rhoads, you accomplished one of the easiest tasks you've failed to accomplish the last few years.

Lose: Must find a way to win 5 other games and come up with at least TWO upsets or else he is done.

Not exactly sure.
Loss, won't be fired immediately publicly, probably told to explore options. Win, status quo. UNI gets up for this game, for all d1s they do, so a win is what we want. Like being at a bar after midnight by yourself, when you're struggling any success, even the ugly style, is a win.

Lose yet again to an FCS team, and he's gone. Not right then, because I don't see JP doing that. But at the end of the season, he gone.

Loss: Rhoads needs to be let go, the sooner the better as he'd be a lame duck at that point.

Single score win: Doesn't change my outlook on the season positively or negatively. Found a way to win, move on and see what we can do for the season.

Multi score win: Some added optimism headed into the rest of the season, but still tempered expectations.

Loss - make the change

Win - let's get this party started. You can win by 7 points and look good, fluky things can happen to keep UNI in the game.

I just want the team to physically look the part and not too make a bunch of mental mistakes.

Loss: Depression. Wheels likely fall off for the rest of the season.

Win: Still hope!

It is sad that a large part of how this season goes depends on if we beat UNI, an FCS opponent. I'd like ISU football to get to a place where those are gimmies.

It's pretty simple. A week one loss to UNI and the season is over.

All this talk about culture change will go right out the window and the team will collapse.

That said, I don't expect that to happen.

Win and I'm good.

Lose and nothing happens until the end of the season, but I think it would take 6 wins at that point.

I'd love to get a big win and see some lanning time.

No matter what, the season will play out with CPR as head coach. Bad year, then look for a DMac type of exit. Predict that 5 wins or more and JP lets Rhoads stay. IMO, UNI game is a must win to achieve those minimum of 5 wins. One never knows how a season plays out. 2004 season did not get off to a good start. We were 2-4 and finished 7-5 with a bowl win. So one never knows.

Those saying that Rhoads may be let go if Clones win 6 or 7 games are delusional.

This is silly nonsense, starting a thread with the sole purpose to freak out about a potential loss and get the "fire the coach" babies all riled up.
