What's your confidence level of beating UNI in the first game?

No confidence at all. We're lucky it isn't already three in a row, as SJ had to pull a lucky horseshoe out of his *** just to beat UNI back in 2011. Everyone remembers the fourth quarter of that 20-19 game, I hope?

Doesn't change your point that SJ saved the day against UNI but that was in 2011. To lose three in a row, ISU would've had to lose to Western Illinois in 2012 but ISU beat them like 37-3.

We'll lose by 10-14.

I honestly think this is the year we go winless. I wouldn't expect much for changes at the end of it either. If Pollard didn't fire Rhoads after last year, he's never going to.

I'm just expecting a loss at this point. I've just settled back into mid to late 90s mode as far as football goes. I still love the Cyclones, will watch and cheer for them, but I'm definitely not expecting anything other than losses from them. Plus, I think Iowa is tired of losing to us and finally comes out with this game circled on their calendar and spanks us as well. Unless things have changed drastically from last year, not sure where we pick up a win this season.

It's so much easier to cope with the football season if you just don't go into any game expecting a win.

No David Johnson raises my confidence level. So I'm at about 39% confident that we will win this game.

I was confident we'd beat UNI last time. It was Paul Rhoads 4th or 5th season, he had his own recruits in the pipeline and his handpicked coaches "coaching them up". Turns out I vastly overestimated the quality of work that had been done over the first 4+ years.

I think it might be a good game, which is sad. If it's a blowout, we'll be on the wrong end of it.

I don't know about that. I think CPR got his last pass in 2014. There were signs that the offense was getting better with a young defense. I think this year is his last chance to at least make an improvement. I don't think it will be enough to get to a bowl game though.

That would also be incorrect though...

I stand corrected - I have tried to block out all things ISU football related, it just makes life easier.

But seriously, I don't know that we can go into any game this season and actually expect to win. At Toledo and Kansas at home are our best chances, but I wouldn't necessarily expect a W.

10/90, with what we have returning, inexperience on D, Farley is a great coach who will have his team ready to play. Sad to say, but that is where ISU football is right now

This. We've been assuming all this time that Chizik was a ****** coach and that CPR "took his players and made them better." Sometimes things aren't what they seem however. My new theory is that Chizik had a team that was primed to have a breakthrough season (after getting a year of experience getting knocked around) and he just didn't stick around to coach them to it.

CPR had excellent initial results (excellent for Iowa State, that is.) Once his players took over the depth charts, the seasons have gotten progressively worse. Maybe my theory is wrong, but the facts behind it definitely are not.

Maybe CPR's recruiting is better than I think right now, and this team is set for a breakthrough season. And that would be awesome. I'm just not putting any money on that number until I see a team that looks like it can compete at the FCS level.

Losing one time is more than enough reason to block it out.

There's really no excuse for losing to UNI or Iowa this year. They both took worse graduation losses than we did.

I think this is a decent point, but it's also what people said about NDSU (myself included) before they curb stomped us.

Confidence is a tricky thing. The past two years have shown me how far behind the rest of the conference we are. We've shown that we can't beat Div II teams. Can't finish. This is a new team. But they have to build confidence through their play in the field. Normally I've started off the optimist. This is the first year I've leaned towards the dark side, but with hopes of improvement. What does that say? I'm on the fence?

I remember when I was one of those people, all wide eyed and optimistic. Now I just want to cuss out the OP for making me actually think about how bad it might go this year.
