In looking back on the season and thinking of what would have helped us win a couple more games this year, I would defintely have to say if we had a better D line we would have won a couple more games. Even when Parker, all year we seemed to get zero pressure on any quarterback, most game they would sit back in the pocket and eventually someone would be open. I would hope the coacing staff is making this a priority for next year.

Agree? Or what improved position do you think would have helped us win a couple more?

I would agree that the D line was the area that most needed improvement. Don't get me wrong- they came up big in several situations, but the pass rush was just not there. I agree with the staff's choice to not blitz a lot to make up for it, as I think the bend but don't break strategy kept us in a lot of games.

Not to be a huge d-bag, but this topic has been rehashed many times in the past three to four days. Do we really need another thread where we have the same discussion.

IRRC it will go something like this...

We couldn't get pressure...
We get Parker back...
WE NEED JUCOS!!!!!
What about redshirts??

Your choice: talk about d-line rush, dline recruiting, AA hand, AA passing ability, receivers getting open, next year's schedule, which bowl game. Open line Monday.

Thats fair...I just hate rehashing topics over and over and over again. Especially when it seems that we have the same conversation every time, with no new information it gets very monotonous

Please carry on.

As Gary Pinkle says, "Give me two stud defensive ends and a quarterback and it will be a fun season." Without these three it is tough, if not impossible, to be a big winner.

We have talked about it all year, but that doesn't make it any less true. Here's a stat to back it up. ISU's defense is ranked 110th in the nation in sacks with only 14 on the season.

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_teamsacks&site=org&div=IA&dest=O

What makes it even more alarming is that ISU has been playing a lot of pass-happy Big 12 teams with mediocre offensive lines and/or mediocre running games. Wait until we have to play Texas, OU and TTU next year.

Senior DE Chris Lyle leads the team with 4 sacks followed by Senior LB Josh Raven with 3 sacks and Sophomore DB Terran Benton with 2 sacks. Yes, I hope the coaches are hitting the DL recruiting trail very hard or next season will not be pretty.

I will do something here that most of you just won't do.
I would like to thank the DL for a great season:yes:

Most thought this DL would be the worst part of this team. But time after time they kept this team in the games. Maybe they did not have a great pass rush but they had a great run defense that put teams into a one demensional game that made the opposition throw good passes. They played with heart and never gave up.

Not saying the Offense was terrible just wanting to give credit where credit is due. Congrats to all the senoirs this season was really fun.

Yeah, defensive line and wide receiver. Receivers executing better would have made a huge diffference. Not coming back for the ball, not getting open, not releasing effectively. The D line gave it all they had, and I respect what our guys were able to do this year. But, we need help there for sure.
