As a White Sox fan, I do not think it is possible for me to care less about the Pirates, Cardinals, Astros, Brewers, or Reds. They have no impact on whether or not my team makes the playoffs.

I couldn't agree more with you. That's probably why I have so much hate for the Twins & Indians.

For those of you who say that the White Sox will fall back to earth -- where is that to? In order for that to happen, doesn't that mean that someone else in the division is going to have to step up and win? I predict that 90 wins will probably win the AL Central this year in undoubtedly a down year. The White Sox are currently on pace for 92.

But I'll stick with 90. In order to reach 90 wins, the other teams in the division would have to win the following percentage of their games:

Twins - 56.9%
Indians - 60.6%
Tigers - 62.4%
Royals - 63.9%

Just FYI, a .60 winning percentage is good for 97 wins over the course of a season.

The White Sox have the best bullpen in the division. The only other respectable bullpen in the Central is Minnesota, as Nathan is amazing, but the pen takes a hit with Neshek out.

Another thing to consider is that after this series with Tampa Bay, the White Sox will have played 12 more road games than home games. As anyone knows, teams generally have better home records than on the road, so they should be able to take advantage of that as it evens out.

The White Sox are also the only team in the division to have a winning record on the road.

Although I never would have guessed this at the beginning of the season, it appears that the division could come down to the White Sox and Twins again. I don't think it bodes well for long term success that the Twins have given up 10 more runs that they've scored.
I also am surprised that an impending ChiSox/Twins showdown is in the works. Still alot of season left....as a Twins fan I am seeing some signs out of our lineup that should spell a winning formula. The top of the lineup is growing up in a hurry, although I am really unimpressed thus far with Delmon's slugging %. And Liriano will be back.

Do you think the ChiSox have enough scoring options when there power game struggles? They seem pretty old to be honest.

By the looks of it the top three teams in the NL Central have dominated the NL West (which I think everybody would agree is THE worst division in all of baseball) by a combined 33 and 19. I would say that is boosting those teams records a bit.

Isn't the NL west a joke... seriously. They only have 5 teams... The NL central has 6... I just never could figure that out...

And the AL west only has 4... How did they sell that to the central teams when they did the realignment?

Power is definitely part of their game. Over the long run, I think they're going to score enough runs. They will go into slumps, as any team will. Cabrera and Swisher were brought in to minimize the slumps (Cabrera through his energy; Swisher through his OBP) and both have underachieved thus far.

They do have some pieces that are older, and it is in the back of my mind as I watch Jim Thome hit .210.

I was thinking the same thing the other night!! But then who would you move to the AL West?? I would think it would have to be Milwaukee or Houston. It would be sweet to have Milwaukee back in the AL, I remember driving up to County Stadium with my parents when I was a kid to watch Sox vs. Brewers games, good times...

As a life long Sox fan I had to chime in. I too am very pleasantly surprised at our good start. Kenny Williams is a freakin' genius. After his off season moves of 2005 had me scratching my head, and then we win the WS, I will never question any of his moves again. The major moves this year have been up and down. Swisher has been horrible but could still come around. Cabrera is starting to hit. And Carlos Quentin is an MVP candidate right now. I agree if Thome and Konerko start to hit just a little bit (Paulie looked good last night), this will be our division to lose.

Pitching.......Can't say enough about Danks and Floyd. They have been great all year and Floyd could easily have two no-no's. Javy and Jose have been great but Buehrle is killing us right now. Don't know what it is but he really needs to step up and right himself. The bullpen is outstanding. Linebrink and Jenks both deserve All-Star spots. I would really like to see more of Nick Massett. Seems like all he does is get people out whenever he comes in.

Twins are tough as they have a good lineup with good left handed bats and have a great home field advantage. Sox always have trouble in the Homer Dome. Should be a very interesting summer to say the least.

Go Sox!!

It seems like they like to save Masset for long relief, I believe he's come in a couple time this year for Buerhle after he's had to exit after the 2nd inning. So in my mind the less I see of Masset the better!!

I hate playing the Twins in the dome, the place has to be the biggest home field advantage in all of baseball, what with the white roof and the plastic-wrap outfield fence. I definitely will not miss having to watch them play there when the new stadium is finished...

From what i could tell was u were talking about how bad one of the teams are in our division when in reality the last half of your division could even get out of last in ours. And the Sox getting wins over the mariners(t-worst record) blue jays, cleveand, and san fran must be rough. Wish the cubs played in a division where the second best team is only 3 over .500. NL west is the worst division but a central aint far behind.

Since you're a Cubs fan you do remember how terrible the NL Central was at this point last year right?? 137-175, 0.432 winning percentage with only one team (out of 6 mind you) over .500. Every division will have it's ups and downs, there's no point in even arguing about it...

But it's more fun when your division is bad instead of ours:biggrin:

I would think if you gave an AL MVP right now, CQ would have to be near the top. Without him, and with (ugh) Jerry Owens, we're probably in third or fourth in the Central.

If you're talking about the player most valuable to their team I would say CQ without a doubt. But Josh Hamilton in Texas is putting together one heck of a rookie outting, I believe he'd be up there as well.

Quentin has single handedly won a dozen games for this team, which is awesome and scary at the same time. I have no doubt that the rest of the team will start picking him up soon!!

That's what is so scary about this team. Their best players aren't even playing their best. Thome is streaky, but when he gets going, he is ridiculous. Swisher and Buehrle have been head scratchers this year. I would like to see JD hit just a bit better, but I can't complain too much.

I too would take CQ at this point for AL MVP. He has been lights out.

Being realistic, the AL Central is a pretty weak division this year, but when you look at the kind of crash the good guys had last year, this year's turnaround is very nice to see. I really don't think that the Twins will hang in all season. I actually think Cleveland will come back in and make a go after the All Star Break.

Regardless, I am really looking forward to watching the Sox/Cubs series. That will make for some good baseball.

Go Sox!

I believe that picture was taken just after the White Sox won the 2005 World Series, yep they were world champs. I have to say it was pretty awesome watching them win a world championship. They got a world championship trophy, a world championship parade. MLB put out a world championship DVD box set that's sitting on my shelf. Yep, 2005 world champs, pretty sweet...

Yep...and nothing wrong with a father kissing his son during a celebration!! Hell...if my grandfather (who passed on his love for the White Sox to me and my family) was alive in 2005 I would have kissed him in celebration of the White Sox winning a World Series! And he wasn't the kind of guy to show emotion like that!
