The ISU team that I am going to compare this year's team to is the 2013-14 team led by Melvin Ejim, DeAndre Kane, and Georges Niang. Just for fun, follow me here:

Melvin Ejim made a jump as senior. Played the small ball 5, perhaps like Tre King could.

Georges Niang took the most shots on the team, and was right behind Ejim and Kane in points. I see some similarities with Momcilovic, who also has unique ways he scores from the paint, an excellent midrange, and deep range from 3.

Dustin Hogue - Could Omaha Biliew be a 5 star version of the high motor junk yard dog with ridiculous rebounding numbers and double digit scoring? Demarion Watson could contribute in this role if he is hitting from 3 more consistently.

Monte - Combo of Tamin and Paveletzke?
Matty Ice/Naz - Curtis Jones/Pav/Jelani Hamilton.

DeAndre Kane - Keshon Gilbert would have some big shoes to fill if comparing him to DeAndre Kane. With many on here projecting him to lead the team in scoring, perhaps he can have a significant impact.

Rob Jones and Hasan Ward would be upgrades over Percy Gibson and Daniel Edozie. We would have more versatility to play big or small.

Again, just for fun as these teams and players have plenty of differences. But based on this alternate reality, Keshon, Tre, and Milan will be the top scorers :)

Gilbert -
Bielew -
King -
Lipsey -
C. Jones -
Paveletzke -
Momcilovic -
Watson -
R. Jones -
Ward -

Here's how I would list out the scoring from top to bottom, however I left out how much each would score because it was WAY too high in terms of total ppg by the team. I was in the high 80's and I just don't think that's possible with TJ's defensive style. I'd guess we'll be more in the high 70's (last year we were at 67.6 ppg). If someone wants to fill it in, go ahead.
Great defense transitions to a good offense with some easy baskets! I actually believe this is TJ’s best shooting team he’s had so far! I’m hoping!

Oh it no doubt is.

Paveletzke
C. Jones
Milan
Gilbert

I'd assume all 4 of those guys will be around 35% this year, with at least two of them hanging around 40%. You mix that with improved shooting from Tamin and Omaha's ability as well, and you have a good shooting team.

Sorry, I must remove my name from consideration! I know it's tough, but it was a personal decision.

Apart from that, I am hoping it is Keshon Gilbert. He takes a big step forward and becomes our next Izaiah Brockington. Then I'll go with either, or both, Omaha or Milan. I think both will do very well in their first years. One will be the team's 2nd leading scorer. If true, that will be huge.

I'm hoping Tre King takes a nice jump. He will be our 3rd leading scorer. Then we need to see another guard play well and score. I think that will be Tamin, but I also count on J Pav and CJ (Jones) to have some good shooting games!

It's going to be a fun and exciting year. We have a little bit of depth now, but are fairly young as well. I hope TJ plays largely a 9 to even a 10 man rotation, get everybody involved, play fast. We saw that prove to be effective once Caleb had to leave last year. We didn't have anything to lose. Let's develop some of our talent, let them play and get experience.

Based on the summer report I think there are two top favorites to lead us in scoring...

1. Keshon Gilbert
2. Curtis Jones

After that it will be truly variable from night to night and I could see a case to be made for 4-5 different guys..

3. Tamin Lipsey
4. Tre King
5. Milan
6. Omaha
7. Hason Ward

----

8. Paveletzke
9. Demarion Watson
10. Robert Jones

Keshon is going to be one of the best guards in the Big 12. My closet favorite player this upcoming year is going to be Jackson though.. I think he's going to be very efficient.

I'm glad we have this team to look forward to. I'm excited for basketball season when it arrives. Lots of new and fancy pieces to align for the tourney!
Agree. I figured we'd be good last year and make the NCAA tournament, but it would still be ugly to watch. This year will probably still have some ugly moments, but hopefully not entire games, or multiple games in a row that are brutal to watch (fun if you're winning, awful if you're not).

We're going to look and feel much different this year, which I'm so excited for. Multiple play makers, shooters, better athleticism, and to top it off, we're going to be even better/more versatile defensively.

Was anyone else surprised to see the offensive output that Watson had in the Bahamas? Had a great stat line. I think he could be the most improved, alongside Ward

I take it with a grain of salt without knowing the skill level of the competition, but if he could give us 4-5 ppg this season, I would probably take it as a sign he is progressing in the right direction.

I think his biggest hurdle with be as the season progresses Omaha and Milan will command more minutes.

The level of competition was good enough to beat KU...
KU lost to the Bahamas National Team with Buddy Hield and Eric Gordon.

they will be a favorite to win it all, like every year. they return 3 starters and add Hunter Dickerson.

let's just be excited for one of ISU's best rosters we've seen, without trying to compare ourselves to one of most successful programs in college bball.

We whipped em last year in Ames and should've beaten them in Lawrence and then two years ago they were literally hand gifted the game by the refs or else we would've gotten them in AFH.

They're an incredible team and basketball program but they also cheat like non-other and are coddled by the NCAA in regards to those "violations". **** KU.

Watson will have a role and hopefully can take a step from an offensive skill perspective. He's a rare developmental type in today's era of college basketball. He may be a starter as a junior in 2024-2025 when Omaha and Tre are gone and depending on where Milan is at.

He's a great glue guy. Does most everything really well except score. When that comes around, watch out.
