This is ISU best chance in years. 2019 and 2021 Iowa was a heavy favorite. We out rushed UNI by a ton in 2019 and won by 3, that is pathetic. Its like beating a team in the stats by 14 and only winning by 3. This is the first true pick em since prior to 2019. This is one of Iowa worst rushing opening debuts in forever. Its not just Petras, this Iowa offense cannot run the ball either.

One/first game samples are never reliable.

Iowa will tighten things up like we hope ISU does.

2021 ISU should have crushed UNI, had almost triple the rushing yards and UNI had 2 turnovers and ISU still only wins by 6, cmon, that is another pathetic showing. This year against SEMO ISU finally outscores its opponent in stats, has double the rushing, wins TOP, had 1/3 of the penalties and taks on another 2.5 TDs. Iowa meanwhile only has its lack of penalties and special teams going for it. Best chance since prior to 2019 for ISU this year.

There's proof that Matt's style/scheme isn't a good fit for this particular game.

The program is better than it's ever been (at least going back to Earle who laid an egg in this game as well) but maybe some good fortune will finally break the spell.

Is it correct that Iowa hasn't had a turnover in this game for 7 years?
Start there.

One thing that gives me a little hope: SEMO was stacking the box big time. Last year, when we had trouble running the ball against UNI and Iowa, we just continued to pound the ball and then mix in short passes to the TE. Saturday, they flat out opened it up. They forced SEMO to back off.

I think they are for the 2nd game. We should have comfortably beat UNI in 2019 and 2021 and didnt. Then we walk in and lose nail biters because things simply are not tight enough.

ISU had several chances to win the 2019 game. By a couple of scores.

That's also unique to September for ISU.

CMC has won one Big 12 opener.

Expect Iowa's offense to move the ball Saturday.

So cliche, but we can't make silly errors/turnovers...we know it'll be close and a battle of field position/field goals.

As I saw others post:
1. Bring some pressure early ..don't let their QB have time to settle in, make him uncomfortable from the start.
2. Let Hunter loose...him, X, Noel....start with them to open up run, not the other way around....and run some tempo

The last egregious streak ended in Iowa City with the offensive line controlling LOS for the entire game.

That's probably what it would take again.

Yes straight from the 35 I expect 10 points for Iowa and 17-21 for ISU, not in real score but comparative score. I am giving Iowa 7 for short field scores, 3 for penalties, 3 for turnovers, 0 for rushing and 3 to ISU for TOP. ISU has to stay near even on penalties, even on turnovers and get out of bad field postion.

I don't think there is proof that Matts style and scheme are not a good fit for this game. In 2017, we moved the ball just fine on them.

2018 Matt went ultra conservative and really got out coached pretty bad. On our fist drive in that game we went right down the field by working the flats on them and scored a field goal. Iowa moved their linebackers to the outside to take away the flats. This made the appearance the inside run game was available, but the run play, our version of the zone read was slow developing and it gave their outside linebackers enough time to crash in. Plus on the zone read, Kempt and Noland were not threats to run so the defensive end crashed in everything as well. We needed quick hitters in the run game to open the flats back up, but we never did. I think the coaches learned, because against Texas that same year, we were running quick hitters or faster developing run plays.

2019, our scheme was fine, we just made to many mistakes. We really should have won that game.
2020, same thing, 4 turnovers did us in.

If the other team never turns it over and always has the best punter you're probably 45-55 to win before the ball is ever snapped.

No matter the location.

Campbell should have 3 wins against them (including the non existent 2020). But we always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. If this game was in Jack Trice I would feel different.

Kinnick gives them the edge

56-50
Wait you think the score is gonna be 56-50? Lol

Fair enough, but when we put 5 in a row on them, do you think their fan base resigned themselves to another loss each year? I doubt it and neither should we.

Several of the recent losses have been at our own hands. We’ll get out of our own way and win this one. Believe Cyclone fans- believe!
What would lead you to believe this? We just haven’t showed we are ready for these games. I will say that is the most advanced our offense has looked in week 1 under Matt

Yep. It’s the only game Iowa has to show up for then they get a cakewalk in the Big Ten West and Campbell has shown every year he’s ok losing this game if it means not showing future opponents our play book.
It’s time Matt puts all emphasis on this game. It means more here than others period. If we lose game and win conference, ok. But that hasn’t happened.

It’s true- out of the 6 losses, there were at least 3 where untimely penalties, turnovers, or both, led us to give the game away. I remember 2019 (I believe), we’re receiving a kick late in the 4th qtr with the potential to start a game winning drive…ball bounces off Datrone Young’s helmet (who didn’t realize at the time that he was participating in a football game), hoks recover, we never get the ball back, game over.

I'd like more emphasis on September period and Saturday was a good step.

But I'd still take a winning conference record and bowl over a Cyhawk win.

That said, the streak needs to end.

If ISU stays out of their own way.... they win. But we haven't been able to do that.... and the pressure to win this game keeps growing, which makes it even harder to perform under that pressure without f**king up.
