I'd say it is Uthoff. Uthoff dropped 30 on Niang in the first half, so we had to put Thomas on him, because he was destroying Niang. I think people are falling into the trap of defense doesn't matter, which it does. If Niang played better D, I would say Niang.

I think the other thing to consider if just how much better ISU's surrounding players are. Morris + Thomas + Nadar + McKay are >>>>>>>>> Gesell + Jok + Clemens + Dingleberry, and it really isn't close. Take Niang away form ISU they are still a tournament team. Take Uthoff away from Iowa and they don't make the NIT.

Niang played more defensive possessions on Uthoff in the second half of the Iowa game than Thomas did, it just didn't seem that way watching it live.

I don't think so.

Interesting take.

You didn't notice because he disappeared from the ******* game. He was a ghost. I think he first shot in the 2nd half was with 7 min left? Yeah, that's the guy I want leading my team.....

dont let his 30 pt half blind you, people. He is a guy who transferred because he wasn't playing and Niang is a guy who has been one of the highest scoring and most winning players in ISU history.

Its not close.

Fraschilla said Niang is the best offensive player in the country. And this kind of pi$$es me off.....why do commentators constantly refer to Niang's game as "an old man's game"? Do you see any old men playing college basketball? Just because Georges is vertically challenged doesn't mean he's an old man. :skeptical:

One player will be drafted. Hint: It's not Niang.
while probably true, I don't think how good a college player is based on what they do after college.
This year it's a push, even scoring wise, GN better with assists, Uthoff better on D and many more blocks. Career wise, GN hands down. BTW, would have been nice for JU to follow his uncle to ISU.

Niang leads in points, rebounds, assists, steals, FG%, and FT%. Uthoff leads in blocks and 3pt%. Also factor in Niang's leadership and the fact that he's done this in past seasons and Niang is definitely the better player. Also, Uthoff has actually gotten worse in some areas than he was last season. He's gotten worse in rebounds, assists, steals, and turnovers. Since last season, Georges has gotten better at everything except for assists, which went from 3.4 to 3.1, but he also cut down on turnovers which is pretty incredible given how often he has the ball in his hands.

So it's Georges.

Uthoff may be having a better statistical year so far, and is easily the better defender between the two. But Georges is one of the most versatile offensive weapons in college basketball in the last ten years or so. I'll take Georges and his track record of sustained excellent play. He's also 2-0 in head to head matchups, which I don't put much stock in, but many do.

But he's not. See above.
