I live in Iowa City, too, and have never experienced trouble wearing Iowa State stuff out at the bars. Granted, I didn't do it last night or will do it tonight, but as long as he wasn't getting rowdy, he shouldn't have a problem.

I lived in Iowa City for a while and went to a couple games in Iowa State clothes. I never had any issues. If your worried about it, wear a jacket or something go up-and-down Melrose. But once you're in, and for the most part everywhere else you go, you'll be fine.
The wife and I are in the south end zone, about 5 rows from the top. Are they the only school that gives the visitors nothing but last row seats? Seems whenever you watch a game on TV the visitors are in a corner (as we do at JTS) but it starts at field level and goes up from there. So, somewhat civil about it. From what I saw, ISU's allotment was nothing but top section tickets, not a single one actually near the field. I've just never seen that before. Or is this just special treatment for ISU?
I didn't know there was another way to drink that foul sauce. Screw off cap, throw it away, finish bottle. Because all the classy "wines" come with a screw cap, right???
Are you really a true cyclone fan if you dont get a beer can thrown at you walking to the statium wearing the cardinal and gold?
I will be making 4 hour drive on Saturday morning and then meeting up with friends and taking the Hawkeye Express to the game (which will be a new experience for me).
Agree. Most Iowa fans are fine just like most anywhere, although I question the Arizona experience.
Man Iowa City is insane. I wasn't going to wear an ISU shirt on gameday but a lot of people in my group were wearing some, so I did too. The worst thing that happened is someone yelled "**** state" to me.
The bar scene there was absolutely crazy, it blows Ames bars out of the water.
We wandered down Melrose Court and onto Myrtle Avenue. That was some serious Hawkroach tailgating! At the tailgate we attended, there were 30 people (one Cyclone fan) and none went to the game. Couldn't wait to get out.
My experience going there in 2014 was terrible.
However, this weekend was amazing. The worst thing I got was a "**** state" twice. Made me uncomfortable with how nice hawk fans were this weekend.
If we could take Iowa City's bars and females and replace them with whats in Ames, I'd be a happy man.
I had a ton of fun, but I lost my wallet during tailgating and only slept like 7 hours the whole time I was there.
Probably my 5th game in IC, first guy to walk up to me shook my hand, welcomed me to IC and took me straight to the steak and beer. I have never a had bad experience there. The only issue I had was 40 year old guy sitting next to me stating he could Run/Pass/Block better than what TOE was doing. Outside of that, pleasant experience again. Also scored free ticket as my friends wife wanted to go bar hopping instead of going to the game.Game outcome sucked but walked away not totally mad.
